The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 13 Review- Plot and Characters
After treading water for a long time, the endgame of Jahy-Sama has finally started to unfold, or has it? Jahy battles the Magical Girl is a decent battle sequence, which showcases her power for the first time in the show. However, battles aren’t what the story is about. Hence, the battle ends in a very sweet manner that involves both of them becoming friends again and Jahy demonstrating how much she has changed since coming to this realm.
Jahy was at her absolute cutest in The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 14. Every action she performs and every interaction she has with another character was measured and sweet, and one can even say kind. She realised that the only thing the Magical Girl and her differed in was that when Jahy was at her lowest, she had friends to take care of her. Meanwhile, the Magical Girl is a tortured character that has never felt the warmth of human interaction as Jahy has. This isn’t a groundbreaking idea by any means, but it is a great way of conflict resolution nonetheless.
The character we’ve seen during the opening and ending themes finally showed up in The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 14, and I can’t say that I liked her presentation. She and Jahy have a very similar bond to the one Jahy and Druj share, but Jahy plays a different role in both of them. While Druj is a strong enough character to make that work, the new character hasn’t demonstrated enough personality to make one assume this about her.
The sub-plot of the mana crystals has seemingly finally come to an end as the show has moved on with a different goal in mind. That has been a long time coming, and I can’t say that I disagree with that happening, especially since we’ve been seeing Jahy vying for them since Episode 1 with little to no success. It seems like the show is finally going towards a specific endgame, and if that results in more watertight storytelling, I’m all for it.
The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 14 Review- Art and Music
This episode was surprisingly well animated for Jahy-Sama, as I didn’t expect an actual fight scene in the middle of an anime such as this. Granted, this was no Tohru vs Elma or anywhere even close to that. But still, compared to the rest of the animation in the show, this one was slightly better animated. Also, I’ve started to skip this opening, so no more complaining about how bad it is. At least until the last episode, when I give a cursory listen to openings even if I skip them.
The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 14 was surprisingly sweet and heartwarming, alongside being the usual amount of funny. The show finally has an end in sight, but it has started to seem like it can’t come soon enough.
