The Great Indian Kapil Show Episode 9 Review

The latest episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show brings a refreshing twist as it opens at a different locale, breaking away from the usual set. This time, choreographer and filmmaker Farah Khan is seen directing veteran actor Anil Kapoor through a rendition of the unofficial Netflix anthem, Bella Ciao from Money Heist. Although Anil’s performance is less than enthusiastic, Kapil Sharma imagines himself in Anil’s place, adding a humorous touch to the scene.

When Farah and Anil notice the newcomer on their set, they humorously reveal their plans to take over Kapil’s show. Transitioning to the actual set, Anil humorously declares it as The Great Indian Anil Show, while Farah jokingly challenges Archana Puran Singh, claiming she’s there to take her place. The two best friends, who have decades of camaraderie, audition on stage as replacements for Kapil and Archana, showcasing their unique chemistry and playful banter.

The episode then delves into a nostalgic journey as Anil and Farah share anecdotes from their Bollywood days. Farah amusingly reveals why she calls Anil “Papaji,” a nickname that originated on the sets of 1942: A Love Story, courtesy of filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The laughter continues as Farah reminisces about her early connection with Archana, recalling her time as a background dancer in the film Jalwa, which starred Archana and Naseeruddin Shah.

The comedy troupe of the show, including Sunil Grover, Rajiv Thakur, Krushna Abhishek, and Kiku Sharda, joins the fun, interacting with Anil and Farah. The group exchanges playful insults, but the humour is light-hearted and enjoyable, especially when conversations turn to marriage and relationships. Farah humorously reveals that despite her no-nonsense public persona, it’s her husband, Shirish Kunder, who truly runs the household.

A delightful surprise comes when Archana’s husband, actor Parmeet Sethi, is spotted in the audience. This prompts some friendly ribbing about his presence, teasing that he’s there to ensure Archana leaves for the airport. The camaraderie and spontaneous humour among the cast create an atmosphere of genuine fun and laughter.

As the slightly shorter episode wraps up, everyone grooves to one of Farah’s iconic choreographed songs, Chaiyya Chaiyya from Dil Se. Krushna and Kiku deliver an inspired and energetic performance, adding a burst of entertainment to the finale. The episode ends as it began, with Kapil behind the microphone singing Bella Ciao, bringing a full-circle moment to the show.

This episode stands out for its raw and unfiltered humor, driven by the dynamic interaction between Anil Kapoor and Farah Khan. Farah’s relentless roasting of Anil, made the episode worthy enough to watch. Kapil Sharma and his team wisely take a step back, allowing the guest stars to shine. This shift in focus pays off, with the stars leading the show and delivering an episode full of unbridled laughter.

A standout moment is when Rajiv Thakur gets his act on stage, revealing that his previous gigs were edited out. His candid conversation with Kapil, filled with mutual roasting, brings back the good old times of the show’s classic humor. This episode effectively balances nostalgia and fresh comedy, making it a must-watch.
