The Great Indian Kapil Show Episode 1 Review

As usual, Kapil Sharma came and set the stage on the vibe with his jokes about his mother shutting his father’s mouth, and how sons get into trouble with mother’s blessings and father’s money. He proceeded on with casual jokes here and there as he introduced his show that is now produced by Netflix, and airing in 192 countries. After which, Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni came dancing all the way to inaugurate Kapil’s flight cafe.

The fun evening started with a lot of family anecdotes and whatnot. Since Kapil Sharma is already close with the guests, he just knew what to mention and where to joke about some things. While the episode itself is a good one, it lacked eenie-meanie things. Firstly, the jokes felt very repetitive as in, not that Kapil’s repeating his old jokes but it felt as if we’ve heard all these somewhere from someone else.

The Kapoors shared stories of their previous appearances with Kapil Sharma and yes they were good moments to reminisce about but it got boring at one point. Why would people sit and watch four friends talk about their memories? There has to be some fun element or some concept in the show to make it watchable for the global audience right? Moreover, Kapil kept mentioning Alia Bhatt constantly which made it seem like he was stressing the fact she is Ranbir’s wife. Yes, she is and we love it but the mentions were plenty.

As usual, Kapil’s co-stars Sunil Grover, Kiku Sharda, Krushna Abhishek, and Archana Puran Singh did their part in putting up their act for the audience and the guests. Regardless, this is just like any other show that Kapil has previously done. Something new and unique could have been added given it’s now on Netflix, premiering worldwide. Additionally, the co-comedians didn’t really pull off much of an impactful joke but rather again the same old jokes that are predictable.

The Great Indian Kapil Show Episode 1 Review Still 2

Something that felt odd was the set-up and how Kapil Sharma failed to use it to present more jokes. Since it is a flight cafe, there was hardly anything that they spoke about the airport theme except a few turbulence jokes. Seriously could have made use of the airport set up and presented some unique games or some concept to make the show fresh and unique. It is just another variety comedy evening show which has been airing with different hosts from time to time.

For the first episode, it was nice, thanks to the feature guests. Hopefully, in the upcoming episodes with more different artists coming in for the evening, we’ll get to collect some unique funny moments. Kapil Sharma needs to spice up with more current trendy jokes or it’s going to be too old school.
