The Boys Season 3 Review: Triple the Madness, Wildness and Insanity

Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys Season 3 is back with another exciting season. The show stars Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell Jr, Antony Starr as Homelander, Erin Moriarty as Annie/Starlight, Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve, Jessie T Usher as A-Train, Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, Laz Alonso Mother’s Milk, Chace Crawford as Deep, Tomer Capon as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as Kimino, Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir, Colby Minifie as Ashley, Claudia Doumit as Victoria Neuman and others.

Based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic book of the same name, the American superhero series is created by Eric Kripke. The synopsis reads, “It’s been a year of calm. Homelander’s subdued. Butcher works for the government, supervised by Hughie of all people. But both men itch to turn this peace and quiet into blood and bone. So when The Boys learn of a mysterious Anti-Supe weapon, it sends them crashing into the Seven, starting a war, and chasing the legend of the first Superhero: Soldier Boy.”

The Boys Season 3 Review Contains No Spoilers

In The Boys Season 3, the events at the end of Season 2 with Stormfront deeply affect Homelander. Every time he “trusts” or gets attached to someone, they’re taken away. As seen in the trailer, something is wrong with him. He keeps saying how he fell in love with the wrong person in various TV interviews. The question is – Does he really mean it?

We also saw yellow laser light shooting out of Billy Butcher’s eyes in the trailer. How did that happen, and how will that affect the group that is passionately dedicated to bringing down the supes? Well, that’s something you all will thoroughly enjoy. After what happened with Becca, Billy is not going to stay calm.

In season 3, a lot of equations are put to the test. Whether it’s Hughie-Annie/Starlight, Kimiko-Frenchie or Billy-Homelander, things get out of control, complicated and emotional at times. But they do get wild and violent almost all the time. There are already so many problems Billy and his clan have to face. But with Homelander losing his mind entirely, they know things will go extremely wrong. So it’s time to bring in the first superhero – Soldier Boy.

Captain America, I mean, Soldier Boy, was THE SUPERHERO during the 90s when there was no Homelander. But what exactly happened to him, and how will Billy find him? There’s no guarantee on whose side he will be. We recently saw a promo shared by the makers in which Soldier Boy is extremely rude, arrogant and unprofessional. Is he really the saviour? Well, that’s something you have to watch out for too.

The latest season is packed with a LOT of moments that will make you say, WTF! The plot is quite compelling and insane and will keep you wanting more even though you will be watching some scenes by slightly covering your eyes.

Ever since the first poster dropped, the show’s creators promised us absolute craziness. Well, they haven’t disappointed. Karl Urban as Billy Butcher and Antony Starr as Homelander has always been the show’s powerful performers. In season 3, too, the two bring in the required tension and drama with their characters and acting. You can’t help but admire the characters for brilliantly playing two hot-headed, irrational and erratic individuals.

Every time Jensen Ackles appears on screen as Soldier Boy, you are glued to the screen. The actor has played one of the most vicious people on the show with utmost devotion. His tough persona is enhanced by his rough and “manly” voice. Actors Erin Moriarty and Karen Fukuhara’s performances are also commendable. The rest of the cast also does a great job throughout.

The Boys Season 3 Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, The Boys Season 3 is filled with triple madness, wildness and brutality. With every season Erik Kripe and his team are getting bolder and wilder, and I am here for it. Along with the madness, the series also sheds light on some social issues. But in Homelander’s world, nothing is more important than Homelander.

The new episodes will release on Amazon Prime Video from June 3.
