What’s the deal with the Fairborn and the Blood Witches?

As rivalry goes in shows such as these, they are two warring clans whose peace talks get dampened when, after years of being on the receiving end of losing their loved ones, the Blood Witches retaliate against the Fairborn. Wolfhagen sees a massacre spearheaded by Marcus, Nathan’s father.

Thus starts Marcus’s revenge on those who wronged his kind as they wipe out the Fairborn for systematically getting rid of the Blood Witches for their powers and because, well, they are different from them. It’s a classic tale of the class system in society but with magic.

Who killed Nathan’s mother? Why did she die?

Nathan’s mother died at the hands of Soul, Annalise’s father after they failed to take revenge on Marcus. Nathan’s mother, a Fairborn, was also condemned because she ‘dared’ to marry and have a child with a Blood Witch. They kept Nathan alive thanks to a prophecy that, in the end, never came to fruition.

Incidentally, Marcus had murdered Nathan’s mother’s first husband after the latter came to hunt him. When Marcus went to meet Nathan’s mother later after being enamoured by the way her husband died, they fell in love and decided to stay together.

Who is Mercury?

Mercury is a powerful witch who uses her potions to control people and keep them under their wing. The series doesn’t go too deep into her in this season, but I think she preys on the vulnerable and desperate to snatch their kids and brainwash them into submission and make them do what she wants.

What happens to Soul? Why does he get the powers of the Blood Witches?

Soul, envious of the powers of the other witches, decides that poisoning and stealing a child’s power is the way to go. Thus, thanks to insecurities and greed, he uses magic to get a hold of the Blood Witches’ ability to eat the heart and drink the blood of the dying in order to absorb their power.

In the end, Soul, power-hungry and desperate, get into a fight with Nathan and Gabriel and Annalise rush in to help him. Just as Soul tries to burn Gabriel to a crisp, she uses her own power to blow up her father’s body, effectively killing him.

Does Nathan kill Marcus?

Although there are issues between the father and son, mostly because, well, he disappeared after his mother died. So, obviously, Nathan dislikes his father. However, unlike the prophecy, he didn’t end up murdering Marcus. Instead, the latter saves his son and gives him some life advice before disappearing into the forest.

What’s with the prophecy?

The prophecy talks about how the wolf’s own blood would kill him (paraphrased). Of course, everyone thought that Nathan would kill Marcus since the latter was a wolf. However, it turns out that the prophecy does turn true but with Annalise killing Soul.

Soul, after taking the Blood Witches’ power from Nathan, can be considered a ‘wolf’ somewhat. Annalise killing him makes the prophecy come true.

What is Jessica’s deal?

Some people are just damaged; that’s just all there is to it. Honestly, there’s also some trauma there, but man, you really need to be twisted to do the things she did.

Why didn’t Marcus fight Soul in the end?

Marcus simply doesn’t care about Soul, and he has better things to do.
