Premiering on May 17, 2023, Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 10, titled ‘International Break’ has a runtime of 63 minutes with a synopsis that reads, “While some of the Greyhounds head home to play for their countries in international matches , Edwin Akufo brings a business proposal to Rebecca”.
Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 10 Synopsis
After Nathan’s response of not submitting to Rupert’s licentious ways in the previous episode, this one makes a major leap and declares that he’s left West Ham United. We soon find him holed up in his apartment, dodging paparazzi’s eye while Jade heads back to Poland to meet her family. Somehow, he eventually escapes the scene and breaks into his parents’ house to find an inkling of comfort during his depressive phase.
Similarly, Keeley’s professional life takes a major hit as the Board of the VC decide to cut down on her firm’s funding, leading KJPR to shut down. As if everything that happened last time wasn’t enough of a blow for her, Jack doesn’t even have the decency of informing her in advance, and the shocking revelation only find its way to her when she arrives at her office and sees everything being cleared out without any prior notice.

Back at Richmond’s home ground, many players prepare and celebrate the journey back to their home towns to represent their countries in international matches. Unfortunately for Sam, Edwin Akufo is back in town and he’s played his cards to keep the remarkable player’s name away from his national team’s list. In another news, he also plans on starting a super league – the Akufo league – and recruits the owners of several football clubs in his race to own more ridiculous money. This allows for Rebecca and Rupert to find a common meeting ground again, leading to the former’s awakening as well.
Much like the boss, Roy also realises how him being stuck in his own issues of insecurity have translated into his dear relationships and caused him much harm.
Ted Lasso Season 3 Episode 10 Review: Discussion
The entire discussion around the super league was just marvellous. Rebecca’s role in shutting down Akufo’s parade and her monologue about how they may own these football clubs, but they can’t own the game and have no right to take it away from the people really hit home.
Episode 10 also made me realise what I’d been missing most profoundly this season – more Uncle Roy and Phoebe moments. They were a delighting highlight of the first two seasons, but ever since Roy’s breakup with Keeley, we’ve completely missed out on his relationship with Phoebe as well.

In yet another worthwhile represenation, Ted Lasso has been a force to be reckon with when it comes to depicting father-son relationships. From Ted’s healthy and fulfilling relationship with his son, to Ola being supportive of Sam and helping him stand his ground and, now, Nathan and his father finally crossing the bridge to meet each other halfway, it’s been a great ride.
In its subtle way, of course, this episode brings us closer to why Nathan always felt like he needed Ted in his corner. It wasn’t just Ted being his positive and sunshine exuding self that helped Nathan, rather it was the one thing that he always craved for – a fatherly validation – which he never quite received from his dad’s end.
Although I adored this episode for resuscitating the same positive charm as the previous seasons of the show, something that has been a long time coming, but it also felt deliberately rushed. While the scenes and storytelling flowed seamlessly to wrap up each character’s arc, today’s episode overtly portrayed its knowability that the series finale is just weeks away, and so there’s no room or time for things to be delayed any further.

And so, all of these supposed “happy endings” have no choice but to reach out to us before the penultimate episode of the series to remind us of the TV show’s goodness of through all its callbacks, gestures and whatnot suggested or seen across the first two seasons.
Even with two episodes still remaining, the show is already on its way to bidding us farewell, hence the bittersweet flavour taking over instantly. Comical distractions and all the hilarious chaotic paraphernalia interspersed in this episode present the deliberate need of the storyline to remind us why we fell in love with the series in the first place. Though this hurried means of concluding characters’ redemptive arcs and everything is welcome (because we’ve been waiting for some old goodness to trickle back into the show), but it’s also unsatisfying because you’re able to see how it’s all been done for the sake of attaining the “perfect” series finale.
Therefore, it’s knowingly intentional in its execution, but also reminds one of how the overall season basically ducked low and digressed from its original ways, which is a shame because I’m equally sad about the series leaving us behind soon as I am with how the season dwindled in carrying its main beloved characters. However, it also makes me wonder if the upcoming episode will introduce a new matter of conflict to ease our way into a cathartic finale after that.
