Taskaree Review
In this thrilling Netflix series, customs officers race against time to stop an illegal smuggling den spearheaded by a dangerous criminal. Amidst judicial and political issues that stop them from doing the right thing at every turn, a few honest officers continue to push for what is right in this engaging crime-thriller series by Neeraj Pandey.
I enjoyed Taskaree a lot; from the engaging performances to the twisted storyline that keeps us on edge throughout, the series is simple yet effective in entertaining us from start to end. It follows two honest customs officers, Prakash Kumar and Arjun Meena, who fight against all odds and try to bring Bada Chaudhary’s expansive network to an end. It’s easy to believe Kumar and Meena’s crusade since both of them bring forth grounded and believable performances, and their honesty shines through. You root for both of them as they fight against corruption.

The series, first and foremost, does a great job of giving us a rundown of how smuggling operations work and what customs do to stop them. Watching Kumar and his team spot these people and putting two and two together makes this even more thrilling, apart from the twists and turns and criminal aspects of the show that add obvious engagement.
The airport customs world serves as the perfect battlefield for the central battlefield, offering a fresh premise and away from the repetitive “underground crime world” storyline that we watch in most crime thrillers these days. There’s not a lot of melodramatic bravado, and the characters add to that feeling of watching a grounded crime thriller.

Plus, it’s not confined to one place and, instead, gives us a thorough breakdown of how corruption can bring criminals from different countries together in a shocking web of lies, deceit and thievery. The globe-trotting smuggling narrative gives the story scope and scale, and it makes the series’s world feel expansive.
In the end, the series brings forth a few twists that are nothing short of absolutely shocking and will leave anyone on the edge of their seats. The surprising turn of events is more audacious because of the people involved, but, of course, I won’t go into details. The series does a good job with its male and female character representation and, in a rare turn of events, the women play strong, pivotal roles in the series. Zoya Afroz and Amruta Khanvilkar are both fantastic and will make you root for them endlessly.

Similarly, Emraan Hashmi and Anurag Sinha are fantastic as well and very easy to believe. Both of their characters make you want to believe in their honesty throughout. Hashmi, fresh out of the success of his character in B***ds of Bollywood, reels you in with his charms, and Meena’s strong personality makes for an enjoyable watch. Sharad Kelkar is the resident bad guy here, and although he doesn’t have many eyes on him, I think he’s enjoyable in the series.
Final Thoughts

Taskaree is an enjoyable watch and entertains you throughout its runtime. It’s short enough not to feel like a burden but still expansive enough to make you believe in its world-building and storyline. Despite some predictable moments, this one’s an engaging affair and makes you believe that there are good people out in the world.
