The South Korean series (구미호뎐 1938) is the anticipated sequel to the widely popular fantasy show of the same named and is directed by Kang Shin-hyo and Jo Nam-hyung. The K-drama stars Lee Dong-wook, Kim So-yeon, Kim Bum, Ryu Kyung-soo, Kim Young-ji, and Hwang Hee alongside other cast members.

The sequel brings the gumiho Lee Yeon away from his happy ending and back to the year 1938, where he once again comes face to face with his brother, Lee Rang and Ryu Hong-joo. Now, he has to find a way to return to the present and to his loved one, but this isn’t something that will come to him easily.

Episode 8 of the series premiered on May 28, 2023, and was filled with equally exciting and interesting plot points as the previous ones. The episode titled ‘Indigenous Gods’ focused mainly on the protesting indigenous gods who arrive at Myoyeonggak to further progress with their plans. However, the story gets complex when Rang arrives at the same place where he gets himself involved in a gambling event. Instead of money, he gambles with his lifespan and ultimately loses it all and has only till the end of the day to survive.

As soon as Lee Yeon learns about the incident, he rushes to his brother’s aid. He calls out the demon for cheating and demands to restart the game. After much effort, he ends up winning at the end. The next day, he reveals this trick to Rang, and the two brothers soon make up after he shows Rang the video he sent before his final moments.

However, the story does not simply end there. The mercenaries continue with their plans and are determined to create fruitful results. They make their final move which makes Yeon meddle in the events of 1938. It will be interesting to witness if he can yet again stop the evil and save the day in all his glory.

In the next episode, it is expected that Yeon will prepare to get rid of the Japanese demons before his departure but the task will be far from easy. Moreover, it is possible that he might put himself as bait and Moo-young captures Rang and Yeo-hee, assuring their life in exchange for the treasures in Yeon’s hand. However, Hong-joo has other plans for the treasure.
