Suzhal Season 2 Review
The dark and hopeless atmosphere of Suzhal 2 will draw viewers in from its first episode. Continuing a part of its previous story while introducing another moral dilemma to the mix, the second season sees SI Chakravarthy battling a case that hits a bit too close to home. The Suzhal series, with its issues, creates a brilliantly tight atmosphere that will leave viewers hooked and make them question what is coming next. The twists and turns that the series comes up with in its second iteration are also quite delicious and although it’s nothing the world has never seen, there’s merit in how the information is presented.
The story of the murder is intricately linked to the cultural and religious festivities that are taking place in Kaalipattinam. There’s a very deep meaning behind the acts that are taking place as Sakkarai is desperately trying to solve this confusing case and it is fascinating to watch throughout. There is hardly a moment in the series which will not give you pause and make you want to get deeper into the meaning behind it and I think that speaks a lot about the story and direction.

What the series gets so right is that it keeps its cards close to its chest and plays it extremely well. The series does a fantastic job of mingling these different elements of the story, both past and present, in a way that is not only believable but also highly entertaining and thrilling. Every episode has some twist to give us which, although shocking, doesn’t feel too forced. By the end of episode 8, I found my jaw on the floor thanks to the twists and turns that popped out of thin air.
The series also brings forth all of these characters’ plight in such a great way that it’s hard to look away. Although I found Chellappa’s personal storyline involving his family and Dhamu to be thoroughly unnecessary and added just for the sake of it, I think the rest of the twists, especially concerning the girls, were nothing short of memorable. The girls were all so good in their roles and were given so much heart that their plights would feel personal.

Kathir and Aishwarya Rajesh reprise their roles as Sakkarai and Nandini and both are fantastic once more. Rajesh takes more of a backseat this season as she waits for justice in her case. However, I never found her character and storyline to be unnecessary. In fact, even from the backseat, I thought she was quite an interesting character. Kathir bats it out of the park this season again as Sakkarai — he’s empathetic and perceptive and, most importantly, very keen to learn and change. He’s so good at understanding his character that you can’t help but hang on to his every word.
In the end, Suzhal: The Vortex Season 2 ends all its storylines with a nice big bow. You feel vindicated and the happy ending gives some much-needed respite to the madness. We learn the full truth about the mystery and it’s truly a heartbreaking ordeal. The series makes us question our morality several times while bringing forth a very important problem in our world. Although I do admit it got a bit melodramatic and cliched sometimes, that segment that cuts between the Ashtakaali Festival and the jail in episode 8 is nothing short of spectacular and makes up for almost all issues that you might have.
Final Thoughts

The second season of this Prime Video series is, again, highly bingeable and makes for a great time. If you’ve watched the first season, this one comes highly recommended. But, I think even first-time watchers will have a great time. It brings forth a good mystery that is told well and acted even better and that’s honestly all you can expect from TV shows these days.
