Suchwita Episode 7: Jimin Bares What BTS Means to Him on Suga’s Web Show; Read On

Promoting his first solo album, BTS’ Jimin drops by Suga’s variety web series set on Suchwita episode 7. The episode begins with the show’s guest bringing in a cake to celebrate the host’s belated birthday (March 9), putting the rest of the interaction into motion.

Suga introduces him as a “regular viewer” of the show, as he even had many good things to say about it during one of his Weverse lives. Jimin was fascinated to be on the set – he kept looking around with astonished eyes. Since the guests are also supposed to bring over drinks, Suga jokes about how he already knows what his fellow member has got for the show – soju. They also recount how Jimin’s first alcoholic drink experience started with the soju Suga had bought for him. The hilarious ‘dumpling incident’ or fight between the younger member and V or Taehyung was also repeated.

After taking a shot of soju, they start dissecting the release of Park Jimin’s first solo album and how long it took to come out eventually. The whole process of putting out his record was not only taxing in terms of the long time it needed, but it also ended up putting a “huge weight” on the singer’s shoulders. Suga, who’s already been through the ordeal himself after having released several mixtapes, and then solo albums under the August D alias, comforts the other by acknowledging that all of Jimin’s efforts are vividly reflected in the title track itself, so he has no reason to feel anxious about anything.

After that, the 1995 liner jokes how his fellow elder member, whom he calls ‘hyung’ (the Korean term of endearment and respect used by a man to address an elder man), barely got up to receive him as a guest of his show. Whereas he politely got up to greet his former guests. As a response, Suga can’t help but laugh it off as they’ve known each other for thirteen years.

Turning up the serious vibe, Jimin then breaks down the meaning of his album title and how it’s an album that looks back on his journey till now. His ultimate goal through this was to express how this album is a reflection of him “facing himself”. Even the album cover follows suit in portraying the same idea as it mimics the image of looking at one’s reflection in the water.

The two also explain how having a supportive and objective production team on an artist’s side is a blessing. This brings them to speaking of the BTS rap line – RM, Suga and J-Hope – leading the team in the early days, but Jimin accepts that to grow more, they all needed this time to chart out their independent chapters. They even hold a brief listening party of the title track, Like Crazy.

In addition to their warm-hearted words about other group members, they switch to their on-and-off lighthearted banter. Yet, this is again followed up by heartening comments like how they would like to jump forward in time and go to 2025, when all seven members will have concluded their respective mandatory military stints and reunited as BTS.

Moreover, this leads them to wonder what that time in the future would be like, and as they’re both curious and excited to find out, they can’t help but look forward to that time. It brings them back to the idea that while solo activities are helping them grow as individuals and strengthen their abilities as artists, what truly matters is when they’re huddled together as a unit. For them, the team comes first, no matter what.

Suga also brings up an old memory wherein Jimin visited J-Hope at Lollapalooza in 2022 and cheered his fellow teammate on. He mentioned how he always races ahead to support the team members, which took him to the next question – what BTS means to Jimin. At first, he’s rendered speechless, but the only word that comes to his mind is “family”, to which Suga adds, “Family of different blood”. Since a lot of emotional baggage comes with being a part of a team for all these years, the members feel like there’s no explanation to describe their relationship.

The session is wrapped up with the show’s final question over their last glass of drinks – keeping his identity as a BTS member aside, what kinds of dreams does Park Jimin have? However, making that differentiation isn’t possible, and quite “meaningless” for him. His only dream is for their team to last a long time.

The episode sweetly concludes the run by mapping out Jimin’s journey as the last trainee to have joined to being a trainee “who was always last to go home” until he finally gained six family members, with who we worked hard for all these years and moved towards the same dream as artists. In the end, Jimin is sent off with warm wishes for the success of his debut.
