Subtract: Ed Sheeran Announces Sixth Album, Reveals Tour Dates; Read On

Ed Sheeran announced his upcoming sixth studio album, Subtract (-), via his social media accounts on March 1, 2023. The artist concludes the equation and says this will be the last instalment of the decade-long mathematical album era following Plus (+) in 2011, Multiply (x) in 2014, Divide (÷) in 2017 and Equal (=) in 2021.

The artist has given the audience music ranging from various genres through various years, along with many collaborations. Sheeran also dropped the album trailer with the album announcement, and the fans are busy dissecting it.

The trailer shows Ed Sheeran walking down a beach alone, wearing a casual white jacket and black pants. The camera moves from his backside to view his side profile. Soon after, the next frame is a top view of the beach, where a list of names is written on the sand. It can be speculated that the names are from the possible tracklist of the new album. Saltwater, Eyes Closed, Life Goes On, Dusty, End of Youth, and Curtains are a few of the mentioned names in the video.

The artist also revealed his personal life issues in a long handwritten letter. He shared that he has been working on it for over a decade, trying to sculpt a perfect acoustic album. He faced a hard time and spiralling through depression and anxiety after his wife was diagnosed with a tumour during pregnancy. His mental health further deteriorated after his long-time friend Jamal suddenly passed away. Fighting for his integrity as a songwriter in the courtroom also negatively impacted his life.

He further revealed that the album is him opening up and expressing himself through music. Along with the heartfelt letter, the artist also announced tour dates across Europe, starting from 25th March to April, at various locations throughout the continent. The first single from his upcoming album will be exclusively played during the shows.

The album will consist mostly of acoustic songs where the artist expresses his deep feelings and emotions that he bottled up throughout the years. Sheeran has gained tremendous love from the audience for his previous albums, and the new album is expected to receive the same amount of affection from fans worldwide. The upcoming album will also consist of collaborations with different artists.
