Everyone deserves pleasure, especially of the sensual kind. To show how some films did a great job of representing queer pleasure, here are some steamy LGBTQ movies to get you in the groove. Queer romance movies are almost always very unabashed with pleasure and centring characters around consensual physical intimacy. All of the movies mentioned below bring into the ether some kind of angst, desperation and urgency in their desire. It is fascinating to see something that is so natural become so valued in movies like these.
The following movies put the emphasis on proximity and intimacy rather than the gruelling act of sex itself. It is brilliant to see desire, and circumstance overlap in such a way that characters are incredibly well taken care of, their scenes more intimate than anything. So, without any further ado, here are the steamy movies that would truly make you fan yourself.
Steamy LGBTQ Movies
Call me By Your Name
While this film was hailed for bringing back the aesthetic arthouse queer aesthetic, there are also scenes in this movie that show how comfortable the two characters are with each other. Every idiosyncrasy and tendency is a representation of the person they love. Additionally, there are moments when the camera pans away, and we just hear their gasps and breaths, which has to be the most erotic thing ever because alluding to something without showing it is cerebral and mysterious in its own right.
Starring Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer, Call Me By Your Name is streaming on Netflix.
Portrait of a Lady on Fire
Intimacy and sex don’t always have to be overt; the female gaze exercised in this film made it win the Queer Palm at the Cannes Film Festival. There are moments of such deep connection, and considering the movie’s subject matter, it seems that because their connection is forbidden, it gives the characters more fire to explore. They are not starved for each other because their company is enough, but they crave physical intimacy, the cheeky play on nudity and sex, to raise angst and tension between the two characters.
Starring Adèle Haenel and Noémie Merlant, Portrait of a Lady on Fire is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Blue is the Warmest Colour
Keeping the streak of women winning the Palme d’Or going, this film also made it big at the Cannes Film Festival. There are moments between the two characters that don’t even exist in reality, just in the character’s brain, but they are choreographed with such brilliant detail that it makes sense to put this on the list. The nudity in this film isn’t even that graphic, but it makes for such intimate scenes that it deserves its own shoutout. The French really bring it when it comes to honouring queerness.
Starring Léa Seydoux and Adèle Exarchopoulos, Blue is the Warmest Colour is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Brokeback Mountain
At the time it came out, this film created some major ripples. Showing incredibly masculine men and cowboys in a situation where they both consent to sex (albeit rough) is quite unconventional. Many have lauded the director for moving past the sanitised look at queer sex and instead going into the nitty gritty. Even though there is a lot of push and pull between the main characters, this film manages to break barriers in the genre, telling the Western story in a different manner.
Starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger, Brokeback Mountain is currently streaming on Netflix.
My Policeman
Both of these characters exist at a time when being queer was a crime. Tom and Patrick try their level best to let either each other go or at least give the other person a chance to change their mind. However, their intimate scenes give way to their mental states and their understanding of each other. There are desperate grasps, fervent movements and bare vulnerability. All of this is not just a reflection of their relationship but also their mental state while they are in this space. Patrick’s house is a safe space, for anything, even it must seem, for this as well.
Starring Harry Styles and David Dawson, My Policeman is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Anne+ The Film
Initially, a series before Netflix picked up the film, the story follows a lesbian novelist and her journey through Amsterdam as she makes her big break. The series and the movie both have incredibly well-choreographed, intimate scenes. However, since the genre this borders on is lighthearted, the scenes aren’t too intense and heavy. Instead, they employ montages, euphemisms and strategically placed gasps that make the viewing experience in tune with what the characters are feeling.
Starring Hanna van Vliet and Georgina Verbaan, Anne+ The Film is currently streaming on Netflix.
For upcoming projects, queer media viewers are excited to see the adaptation of Red, White and Royal Blue coming to Amazon Prime Video soon. It is expected to have well-choreographed intimate scenes, romantic angst, some forbidden romance tropes and a brilliant cast that brings all the characters to light.
