Spy x Family Episode 22 Review: Meeting The Target At Last!

The last episode of this season of Spy x Family was everything I wanted it to be, but how did this episode fare anyways? Now, without further ado, let us jump right into the review and see how this episode went.

Spy x Family Episode 22 Overview

Even though shounen giants like Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War, My Hero Academia Season 6 and Chainsaw Man are all airing this season, Spy x Family stays strong amongst the top dogs with an unconventional storyline and interesting characters. The series is based on the hit manga by Endou Tatsuya, which combines action with family-centric comedy.

After the successful first season, it was only natural that we would get a second season for the Forger family. The anime is back with stunning animation, clearly influenced by the triumph of season 1 and a fast-paced storyline that will never cease to amaze the audience.

Furuhashi Kazuhiro directs the anime, and on the other hand, Wit Studio, CloverWorks is in charge of its animation. “SOUVENIR” by BUMP OF CHICKEN is the opening theme, whereas “Shikisai (色彩)” by yama is the ending theme.

Spy x Family Episode 22 Review and Recap: Damian’s Dilemma

Still From Spy x Family Episode 22

The last episode of the season was a joy ride where we saw some progress in the infamous operations Strix, about which we heard from the beginning of the franchise. It is finally the day of the Imperial Scholar’s social gathering, where all the Imperial Scholar students and their parents meet and greet each other.

The VIP of this event is definitely Demetrius Desmond and his father, Donovan Desmond. Such an event is very hard to infiltrate, and it is because of this reason, Loid needs Anya for his operation. Though he still can’t formally enter the gathering, he prepares to meet Donovan anyway, with the help of Damian.

On the other hand, Damian wants to meet his father, just to relay a message to him as he rarely sees him. Even though Damian is neglected, he deeply respects his father and wishes to gain his acknowledgement and attention.

After requesting his brother, Damian finally creates an opportunity to meet Donovan but soon decides otherwise, thinking he might not be important enough for his father to meet him. Thankfully, Anya unknowingly encourages him and makes him go with his initial plan.

Loid takes this opportunity and approaches Damian when he is waiting for his father. Due to his mission, Loid interrupts the family reunion and hogs Donovan’s attention for himself. Now, we can tell that Loid has finally taken one positive step towards Operation Strix, for which he has been preparing all this time.

From this portion, many things were also confirmed. The first one is how good of a spy Loid is and how meticulously he does his job. With just a short conversation with his target, he was able to get a good grasp of his opponent’s character and core beliefs.

Loid even somewhat mends the crumpled relationship between the father and son by expertly proving Donovan does care for Damian to some extent. But Loid’s triumph lies in the fact that he made Donovan remember his name with his gifted oratorical skills.

Verdict

This was definitely a fitting ending to this charming and entertaining family drama that narrates the story of a not-so-normal family. Yes, this season ends without any closer, but that is not an issue, as the makers already announced the release of the next season. Watch Spy X Family on Netflix.
