Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Episode 24 Recap
In this episode, Lawrence, Holo, Evan, and Elsa decide to flee the village, fearing they’ll be wrongly accused of a crime they didn’t commit. They slip out through a hidden door in the church, which leads to the cave of the pagan god Tereyo. This escape route is clever, as the villagers would never suspect that the church’s secret door connects to the place where their god is worshipped.

The group hurries towards a stream but quickly realizes running barefoot is impractical. Holo, stepping in to help, transforms into her majestic wolf form. Before offering her assistance, however, she teasingly threatens the others. Despite her sharp words, Holo shows her softer side by letting Evan and Elsa rest on her back, treating them with gentle care as if they were her own children.
Their plan takes a sudden turn when they spot a large group of soldiers from Enberch heading towards Tereo. Lawrence quickly understands the situation—the Church of Enberch is seizing the chance to accuse Tereo of heresy due to its belief in pagan gods, allowing them to impose harsh conditions and take control of the village. Faced with this grim reality, Elsa must make a difficult choice, to return to the village and take things into her hand.
Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Episode 25 Review and Recap

Today’s episode was great, as it tastefully ended the first season without leaving or giving out too much. The episode starts with Lawrence, Holo, Evan, and Elsa entering the church via a secret entry. After that, they see the predicament of the villagers in front of the Enberch Church, who have clearly come to disrupt the peace. They also openly insult the pagan god Truyeo and its idol, proclaiming Truyeo as an evil entity. The villagers also get shunned and are told they must believe and worship the church and nothing else.
To control the damage, Elsa finally shows up and starts to strategically placate the situation. She maintains her stance that her god is true but also does not deny the might of Truyeo in a clever way. Here, Holo plays a huge part that essentially saves the village from being labelled as a place for heretics. Holo manages to perform a magical task that Elsa uses to convince the Bishop that the village is indeed innocent and is blessed by god.

Not only this, Lawrence also uses his merchant acumen and comes up with a plan that can save the village from bankruptcy. He also provides them with a way out of being just dependent on wheat and gain significant profits in trade.
In this episode, Elsa finally comes to understand her faith more intimately. She learns to agree and accept that just like her God, other Gods can exist as well. There is no reason for one to fight the other to establish the legitimacy of their Gods when all can live happily. Thus, Holo and Lawrence’s journey to Tereo comes to an end and they move on with smiles and goodbyes.

Verdict
This episode made me happy but also sad that this is getting over. We see Holo promising to come back and I hope that happens as soon as possible because this is a journey I would love to continue.
