Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Episode 19 Recap

In this episode, the atmosphere is tense from the start, with Lawrence feeling the pressure as everything seems to be slipping out of his control.

To win the bid, he needs to crash the pyrite market so that Amati can’t profit and win Holo. However, Lawrence lacks the necessary pyrite to sell at the right moment to trigger a market crash. His only option is to secure more pyrite from Dian, but that seems unlikely as no one from her side is showing up. This sets the stage for an intense battle of strategy and patience between Lawrence and the market.

The tension is palpable, as the outcome is uncertain. Lawrence is pessimistic, believing Holo might be leaning towards Amati instead of him. He feels like he’s fighting a losing battle and is desperate to succeed. What he doesn’t realize is that Holo cares for him just as deeply as he does for her. She ultimately helps him win and reveals her feelings.

Lawrence comes to understand that he should never have doubted Holo’s loyalty and trust in her. The contract with Amati led him to question his companion, shaking his confidence. Watching how they overcome their misunderstandings and finally embrace their feelings for each other is a truly rewarding moment.

Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf Episode 20 Review Peaceful Days

Today’s episode was a much-needed breather from all the anxiety we felt with the previous arc of this series. Holo and Lawrence are back on the road, and they are turning towards their new destination from where they can get more information about Holo’s birthplace. It is not a one-way distance that they will have to cover. The only way they can reach there is by contacting an Abbott, who collects various stories about pagan gods.

However, to reach this Abbott, they first need to go to Tereo. But as Tereo is an equally unfamiliar place to Lawrence, they will have to ask about it from someone in the town of Enberch, towards which they are currently travelling. It is an extremely roundabout way, but there is just no way other solutions to this problem. This time, Lawrence is also getting flour so that he can search for the town and, at the same time, make some money on the side.

Their journey seems very peaceful, and you appreciate the breathtaking visuals of the route they take. Right now, nothing seems too challenging or problematic, but there is something off about the town of Tereo, which is more of a village than a town. The people there do not seem welcoming, plus, the nun at the church seems suspicious. How Lawrence and Holo will be able to get information and move on from here is something that we will have to see later.

One thing that stands out in this episode is how close our couple has gotten since their last experience. Due to the involvement of Amati, I believe Lawrence is more clear about his feelings, and Holo is also becoming more understanding. Their bond appeared to be indestructible, and I hope this new town will not have any effect on it.
