The story was turned into a webtoon on March 4, 2018, illustrated by Jang Sung-rak. The first season of the webtoon ended on March 19, 2020, and the second season ran from August 1, 2020, to December 2021. D&C Media has published seven volumes of collected chapters as of February 2023.

An anime TV series produced by A-1 Pictures is premiering soon in January 2024. Additionally, there’s a Korean drama adaptation in the works, and a spinoff webtoon called Solo Leveling: Ragnarok is scheduled to come out in 2024.

I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Solo Leveling Episode 2 Review and Recap: Must Act According To Rules

This episode picks up right from the part where episode one ends. By now, we all know the fate of these people, who are trapped inside the chamber is grim. There is a very slim chance the majority, let alone a single person can get out of here alive without at least missing a limb or two.

But why are the hunters in such a situation when they are supposed to be at a low-ranking dungeon? The captain of the mission even reveals how he thinks the boss of this dungeon, which is the statue here, is at least an A-rank or even an S-rank threat. There must have been a mistake due to which a team of practically novices are sent here to their deaths.

Plus, it is very difficult to understand what is triggering an adverse response from the statue as it doesn’t necessarily attack the hunters every second. This view is further tested by Jinwoo when he remembers the first commandment, which tells them to worship God. He figures out that this dungeon must have its own rules, and hence to survive here, they will have to act accordingly.

In this episode, we also come to know more things about how the whole dungeon system works. A dungeon is only partially open, till the 7th day from the time it was created. After the 7th day, a phenomenon called the dungeon break happens, following which all the magic beasts inside the dungeon then pass through the gate and come inside the human world. If that ensues, then the God or the monstrous statue in front of them can also come outside and destroy everything.

This episode again is a great follow-up to the brilliant first episode, where we get to see how messed up our hero’s situation is. The animation is just breathtaking, teamed with epic music that will transport you to Jinwoo’s world. I also love the fact of how gruesome and brutal this adaptation is, as the makers do not shy away from showcasing gore when it’s needed. The pacing is also absolutely perfect and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I also liked the opening and ending themes.

Verdict

Yes, this is another episode that did not miss. I undoubtedly loved this episode and can guarantee that this is greatness in the making. It is only the second week, and Solo Leveling has already become one of the biggest releases of 2024. I just hope they keep this quality up and finish on a high note.

If you are still thinking about whether you should start this or not, you should definitely watch it, as you are clearly missing out.
