An idea conceived during the pandemic that still remains intact and is thriving, this HBO Max show was conceived by Selena Gomez’s affinity to learn cooking while she was in quarantine like the rest of the world. Putting the lucrative idea into play, the series came into being and with its fourth season it seems like something everyone is getting a hang of.
The show is developed by Aaron Saidman, who is known for his works that include Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, Declassified: Untold Stories of American Spies, Night Stalker: The Hunt For a Serial Killer and various others. Saidman and Gomez serve as the executive producers alongside Eli Holzman, Leah Hariton and Melissa Stokes. Singer-actor Selena Gomez is the presenter and host of the show, with a format that welcomes new guests every episode, who join her in her cooking endeavours. Selena+ Chef Season 4’s first episode features Ludo Lefebvre followed by Kristen Kish in the second episode and DeVonn Francis in the third one. The runtime for each episode is 30 minutes.

Now that the pandemic is over, it is a fresh start for most people out there and the same applies to this show that was conceived during this pandemic. But, how can you move on before you can complete the full circle of learning, right? To make sure our host and cook are in the making, Selena Gomez is equipped enough to move on to the next chapter of her cooking journey.
Thus, the show’s first episode begins with French Chef Ludo Lefebvre, who was Selena’s first cooking instructor. Her mentor has returned this season to see her grow and grill her through as the two embark on making yet another stunning dish together. A session filled with grilling up of sole with burnt tomatoes and sorrels and a spicy banana, pineapple caramel sauce.
Selena+ Chef Season 4 takes place at a Malibu beach house, where Selena is staying with her friends and family for the summer. However, people who are a Disney fanatics or have followed Selena from her Disney years to this HBO show must have already noticed the connection the house has to the children’s channel. The house Selena is boarding in is the same one used in Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana. It was also featured in HBO’s Big Little Lies.

The winner of Top Chef Season 10, Kristen Kish a popular name in the television-culinary world. For episode two, it is the Korean-born American Chef who offers Selena a hand in elevating her childhood summertime jam- street corn, glazed carrots, fried broccoli and more, come together to make this dish.
Chef, video host and a well-known activist, Selena finish her opening round of the first season with DeVonn Francis. Moving on from the Mexican cuisine in episode two, it is Jamaican cuisine in the third episode that is put on the pedestal of learning. Torched banana cakes and banana leaf roasted snapper are on the menu but, some tough times grace Selena in the kitchen around this time.

Is Selena+ Chef Season 4 really worth the watch? Well, it is, clearly, too early to give out a verdict. Nonetheless, the show is not the typical cooking show one is used to and really brings about a change in learning new culinary skills and knowing about different cuisines from around the world, without the pressure of seeing your favourite contestant gets eliminated.

It is a comfort watch and, something you can rely upon after a hectic day of work. It isn’t a game-changing piece in the television arena but, it is an enjoyable, comfortable and fun watch to tune into if you are looking for something light but, also valuable.
