See You in My 19th Life Episode 8 Recap

The episode picks up from where the last one ended. Ji-eum suddenly gets a vision of Seo-ha from her past life and wonders about their relationship. Seo-ha goes inside the abandoned building, and suddenly, someone drops from the top of the building. He goes near to find out that it is none other than Mr Bang. He meets the culprits and gets involved in a physical altercation with them, but they successfully fled the scene. Ji-eum also follows him inside the building and finds Bang’s dead body.

Later the police arrive and take over the crime scene. However, the police rules it out as suicide as directed by Mun Jeong-hun. He finds out that Ji-eum was also with Seo-ha and invites her over to his house. He hands over an envelope full of money to her in return for her to remain quiet about the incident. But Ji-eum does not take the money and grows suspicious of him.

Ji-eum arrives at her home and asks Min-gi if they were lovers in their past life, and he denies it. He suggests her to touch the bells again and try to evoke the memories of her first life again. As she does, images of Seo-ha appear, and she is convinced that he was her past lover in her first life. She calls him up and vaguely shares the memory with him. Meanwhile, Mr Bang’s employee leaves the evidence outside Seo-ha’s house and he finds out who is responsible for the accident.

The next day in the office, Ji-eum gets a phone call that her father is in the office looking for her. As he started to create a ruckus, she immediately kicked him out and sent him straight home. Seo-ha and Ji-eum share a meal at his house when she saw the paper he received from Mr Bang’s employee. She finds out that it was her father who was behind the accident back in 1998 and goes over to confront him. Her father agrees to the accusations, and she cuts off all ties with him.

Ji-eum meets up with Han-na and asks her if she knows who from the MI Group ordered the hit on Seo-ha. Her suspicions go towards Hae-sun, and Ji-eum confronts her immediately. However, Hae-sun denies the accusations, and Ji-eum realises that the perpetrator is none other than Seo-ha’s uncle, Lee Sang-Hyuk.

Meanwhile, as Seo-ha decided to get rid of the evidence, a tape cassette drops from the bag. As he plays the tape, he recognises the voice and realises that it is his uncle who wanted him dead. Ji-eum arrives at his house and tries to console him. She walks over to the piano and plays a song that Ju-won used to play for Seo-ha when he was young. When Seo-ha asks about it, she reveals that she was Ju-won in her previous life. The episode ends on that note.

See You in My 19th Life Episode 8 Review

The latest episode is interesting, and the plot thickens further. The creators have considerably derailed the source material, including their own storyline and subplots. So far, it is seemingly forming adequate amounts of build-up, keeping the audience wondering what might happen next. However, the story is getting a little too intense and serious, with little to no enjoyable moments. Moreover, the chemistry between the lead couple fails to create a connection with the audience and touch them in a way that makes the instances memorable.

Overall, the episode is watchable, but there is still a missing element in the story that stops it from creating a magical world of romance and warmth.
