Re:Zero Season 3 Episode 7 Review

This episode opens with Subaru in a delirious state, disoriented and unaware of his surroundings. He had been swept away by a massive flood when the gates of Priestella were opened. On top of that, he had lost half of his leg and was in agonizing pain, struggling to stay afloat in the water. When Subaru eventually comes to, he finds himself face-to-face with Priscilla and Liliana.

Strangely, Subaru’s missing leg has reappeared, but it is grotesquely deformed. It becomes clear that the leg’s unusual healing is a result of a curse placed on him by Capella, causing it to regenerate in a distorted manner. Meanwhile, the situation in the city is deteriorating, with everyone affected by the sinister aura of the Archbishop of Wrath. Fortunately, Liliana manages to soothe the crowd with her enchanting singing.

Elsewhere, Emilia is shown in a dire predicament, held captive by Regulus. Realizing the danger she’s in, Emilia decides to play along with his demands for marriage, at least for the time being. She quickly perceives Regulus’s twisted nature as a sadistic tyrant who treats his wives as mere objects, marrying them only to assert his dominance and discard them at his whim.

ReZero Season 3 Episode 7 Review

Today’s episode did not develop much plot-wise, but it showcased more growth character-wise. It opens with Emilia being able to establish contact with Al through a magical device that she finds on Regulus’s desk. She quickly gives him some very important instructions that she believes will help their side to win against the evil archbishops. Al learns who currently controls towers one and three but is astonished to find her devoid of fear about her predicament. He asks why she is not wondering whether her Prince Charming will come to save her. The answer he gets clearly demonstrates how much Emilia has grown as a person who thinks about others before themselves.

On the other hand, Subaru gets the news of Emilia and is in the process of planning his next steps. The enemies have graciously left the broadcasting device intact, and with it, Subaru can soothe the agitated minds of survivors. However, who will be the one to address the frightened and frazzled people who are lost and distraught? Some come to Subaru’s mind, but they flat out reject the idea because none of them believes they can shoulder the responsibility.

ReZero Season 3 Episode 7 Review

It was unexpected to see even Anastasia, who is supposed to be one of the contenders fighting for the throne, back out from representing the defence squad against the Archbishop. That is when the obvious election of Subaru comes to light. Here, Al takes a very important role in providing a reality check to Subaru, who wishes to save everyone without leaving anyone behind.

If he does want to play the part of a hero, he will also have to bear the burden of every single casualty they will face. If anything goes wrong, not only will he be blamed for it, but he might even lose Emilia, his most precious person. But isn’t that the case with Subaru all the time? Almost everyone in every setup waits for him to save the day and take the first step forward.

Verdict

Today’s episode had ample character development, and the speech by Subaru was really good. It sets up the stage for the final battle between the archbishops and Subaru’s squad. But this episode also comes with a lot of talking that could have been shortened to further the plot a bit more.
