Re:Zero Season 3 Episode 5 Recap

This episode opens with Emilia finding herself in a strange, unfamiliar setting, where she’s suddenly confronted by Regulus with an intrusive question. The Sin Archbishop of Greed, in a burst of intensity, demands to know whether she’s a virgin. Startled and bewildered, she confirms, only for Regulus to claim her as his 79th wife on the spot, disregarding her feelings or consent. Shockingly, in this world, this is far from the most dire outcome a character can face.
Meanwhile, Subaru is battling his own emotions as he restrains himself from attacking Lye, the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony responsible for Rem’s tragic state. Subaru knows he can’t afford the distraction and must prioritize Capella, who poses a more immediate threat. He teams up with Crusch to face her, only to encounter a sorrowful hostage caught in the crossfire. True to form, the story spares Subaru none of its cruelty.

This episode once again highlights the relentless brutality of the series, where human lives hold little value in the eyes of merciless villains. Capella is particularly ruthless, inflicting psychological torment by transforming herself into the loved ones of her victims before taunting them. Her blood, with its ability to mutate others into various creatures, serves as a powerful weapon in her hands, used solely to cause suffering.
Re:Zero Season 3 Episode 6 Review

The episode begins with a delirious Subaru who has no idea what is happening around him. He was washed away in a huge flood when the gates of Priestella were opened. Not only that, but he also lost half of his leg and was in tremendous pain, drowning under the water. When he regains consciousness, the first thing that he sees is the face of Priscilla and Liliana. From them, he gets to know the floodgates were indeed opened but were also quickly closed after some time.
However, the leg that Subaru lost is miraculously still there, back in a very weird and deformed state. It is apparent that it has been affected by the curse put on him by Capella, which also made his leg heal on its own. The whole situation in the city is a lot worse, as we see everyone being affected by the negative emotions of the Archbishop of Wrath. Thankfully, Liliana was able to calm them down with her beautiful singing.

On the other hand, we also see the predicament of Emilia, who is under the captivity of Regulus. She understands she is in deep trouble, and that’s why, she plans to get along with Regulus’s idea of marriage for the time being. She also notices just how cruel and insane of a person Regulus is. He does not care about his wives and just gets married to subjugate and torment them. At the slightest inconvenience, he discards his wives as if they were nothing more than replaceable possessions.
Emilia tries to instil some sort of self-worth within his wife no. 184. But the brainwashing is so intense, and perhaps she is so fearful of him, that any kind of logic does not go through her head.

Verdict
I loved today’s episode, as we covered a lot more about Subaru’s personality in the latter half. He has truly become a knight by heart, and his resolve showcases that. Just because he is Emilia’s knight, does not mean Emilia is the only person he wants to save. As a knight, he does not want to sacrifice anyone else and wishes to protect every person who does not deserve to be in this troublesome situation.
