Revenant Episode 12 Recap

San-young runs to her mother’s cafe after her evil shadow leaves. When she meets her mother after the incident, she hugs her but Gyeong-mun senses something odd with her daughter. Semi and Gyeong-mun are too stunned to speak as only a few hours back the evil spirit almost killed the latter.

Hongsae and Hae-sang find San-young at the cafe and ask about the evil spirit. Hae-sang asks her why she said not to find the corpse and San-young tells her that she said it unconsciously. However, both Hae-sang and Hongsae don’t find her answer convincing. Hae-sang then learns about his grandmother’s death and confronts Chi-won. Later, he tells Hongsae that the spirit purposely made them find the objects and they have to check if Lee Hyangi has really left San-young.

The next day, San-young takes care of her mother fondly but the latter asks her “Who are you?”. Gyeong-mun observes San-young’s behaviour and learns it is not her daughter. Then we find that Lee Hyangi has completely taken over the body of San-young. Hae-sang starts going to the places where the evil spirit killed people and seals the objects one by one. When he visits San-young’s grandmother’s place to seal an object, Gyeong-mun attacks him and reveals the truth about San-young.

Hae-sang understands that San-young has become the shadow and the evil spirit has full control of her body. Gyeong-mun reveals that the evil spirit asked her to kill Hae-sang to save San-young. Meanwhile, Hongsae follows San-young and interacts with her. He realises it is the evil spirit and demands it to leave. The possessed San-young says that “It’s over” and walks away.

Hongsae and Hae-sang then find video footage of his grandmother cutting her finger before she dies. They then figure out that the only way to stop Lee Hyangi is by finding her severed finger and destroying it. Hongsae and Hae-sang search the entire Yeom estate but do not find anything. At the same time, Gyeong-mun reveals about Hae-sang’s search for the finger to the possessed San-young. She tricks Hae-sang and Hongsae by using Gyeong-mun’s phone and sending a message asking for help.

When Hongsae and Hae-sang leave, San-young goes to the Yeom estate and takes the box containing her finger. Just then, Hae-sang enters and locks the door. Apparently, he figures that the spirit is tricking him and so he sends only Hongsae to check on Gyeong-mun. Hae-sang and the evil spirit have a terrible argument causing Hae-sang to get stabbed. When the evil spirit tries to leave she gets stopped by the real San-young on the mirror.

San-young fights the war within and manipulates the evil spirit to burn the finger by herself. The evil spirit departs and all of them are saved. Fast forward, we see San-young completing her bucket list. Moreover, she agrees to have not yet told her mother about her eye condition. Hae-sang donates all his family wealth to charity. Hongsae clears off all the cases and helps San-young out of legal issues.

In the end, Hae-sang takes San-young to a fireworks festival and wishes the best for her. She enjoys the fireworks in the night sky before her vision goes blind and the episode ends.

Revenant Episode 12 Review

Honestly, the ending broke my heart. San-young didn’t deserve the eye condition because all her life she’s been struggling for others and now has to live as a visually challenged. Atleast when the evil spirit left it could have given some power to San-young’s eyesight. The episode had some serious jumpscares (finally!) and gave a strong climax. The actors really aced their roles in this episode, especially Kim Tae-ri. In the scene where the evil spirit attacks the body of San-young to threaten Hae-sang, Kim Tae-ri’s expressions were priceless.
