Rainbow Ending Explained

After the long trip of looking for her mother and being suspected of having murdered the second richest man in the country, Dora’s life takes another taxing turn. She finds out that her entire life has been a lie and that she was adopted by her present father. Once she’s released from police custody as all the charges against her are proved inconsequential after looking at the CCTV recording of the night, she also decides to walk away from her father.

Two-thirds of Mr. Arturo Weizeg Molina’s inheritance is passed on to his only daughter, Dora, as is revealed towards the end, all thanks to Maribel deciding on a DNA test. And half of the was allotted to Coco Cabrera, only till Dora turns 18. The last third also belongs to Miss Cabrera as per the will. The two are declared as the “sole shareholders of the W business conglomerate”.

Maribel had parted ways with Coco earlier but comes back to collect her last remaining belongings at the mansion. Coco sees this as an opportunity to lure her back to her side. She plays the victim card yet again after gaslighting her for so long and claims that she can’t go on without her support in this old age. This is all but a pretentious ploy for her to make her move on Dora later.

The two plan a party to commence a new era of their business and welcome Dora to the family. On the day of the event, Coco raises a toast to Arturo’s wealth and spikes Dora’s drink with poison. However, Dora is still on the edge with all the new changes happening in her life and can’t seem to accept this brand new glamorous way of life. Disdainfully, she rejects the drink and throws the glass away.

Walking over to a piano on the lawn, she starts playing an upbeat song, which magically pulls the crowd to dance along. It looks like she has powers after all. Eventually, things start floating up as well. Within a few moments of this sequence, Coco starts feeling a bit queasy and trips into the pool. Apparently, Maribel had slipped poison into her drink too.

Moreover, the lion Dora had been hallucinating about comes to life and drives everyone away from the party, leaving only Maribel sitting by the pool with Coco’s body floating in the water. Since she sits undisturbed by the lion’s presence, it seems that she’s the one who conjured up the lion in the first place. She never cared for the money or all these parties anyway.

Following her friend’s advice, she decides to return to her initial life with her adoptive father. On the way back, she comes across a diner, where she orders a cup of latte and can’t help but glare intently at the waitress. Once her coffee is served, the lady’s name is revealed to be the same as her mother’s – Pilar.

Although she doesn’t pursue her any further and doesn’t say anything, the minute she steps out, a smile glistens on her face, and a rainbow shines at her. Thus, proving that she did find what she was looking for at the end of the yellow-brick road – a rainbow after a destructive cyclone, i.e., a sense of belonging with her family and in this world.
