Pro Bono Episode 8 Recap

The episode begins with David being shocked that Elijah’s mother is the one who wanted to ruin her reputation. Then comes out news that Elijah’s boyfriend has been cheating on her, and it gets disclosed by a news outlet run by the attorney who was going against Elijah. David and Gi-ppeum go to Elijah’s mother to confront her. There, she discloses how she just wanted Elijah’s garbage boyfriend to stay away from her, and that is why she did what she did as a mother. Elijah finds out about it and is absolutely livid because she believes in a way she got cheated by her own parent.

She hates the fact that her mother hid something so important from her and decided to take such a drastic step without her knowledge. David goes to the lawyer that Elijah’s mother hired and bullies him into disclosing all the secrets that he knows. There, we see that Elijah’s mother was even responsible for keeping any men from approaching her while she was at school. She would utilise disgusting methods so that she could mooch off of Elijah all her life. Obviously, David discloses this information to Elijah. After knowing about this, Elijah goes straight to the pro bono office and tells the team to file a lawsuit against her mother and her company as an artist.

The trial happens, and drama happens because of the messy situation between the mother and daughter. Later, Gi-ppeum invites Elijah to stay with her because she feels lonely staying alone. On the other hand, the pro bono team goes deep into the research of files regarding the dirty secrets of Elijah’s entertainment company. While researching, they managed to get proof that the company was involved in a money laundering scheme and even provided proof of that.

While this case goes on full swing, suddenly Gyu-jang tells David to disband the pro bono team. His reasons make no sense, but he is adamant and sticks to them. The mood between the pro bono team members also sours, and David goes to Jung-in to talk about it. Apart from this, the episode dives deep into all the traumas family members inflict on others, and we get to see the traumatic past of Yeong-sil. He was abused by his father when he was young for his stuttering, and that made him stop talking about his family altogether.

Thankfully, due to Jung-in’s timely plan, David manages to save the pro bono team temporarily. However, the things they plan to achieve are something monumental, as the pro bono team now looks at trying to change a law at the National Assembly. Though things do not go as planned for David, because Elijah’s mother decides to play the victim card. David sees through this and proves that she actually squandered all of Elijah’s money on her lovers and even gifted a luxurious life to them, all at the expense of her own daughter.

I like this episode as it showcased something very different. Here, we got to see how one appeals to change a law in Korea, and that process was pretty intense, making it interesting to watch. The next episode promises something much more exciting, and I am eagerly waiting for it to air.
