– Our Beloved Summer episode 2 recap contains major spoilers –
Our Beloved Summer starts at September 08, 2011 – 50 days of dating. Ung notes how Yeon-su always asks odd questions – what if she gets into college and he doesn’t? the questions are truly very weird and don’t change even on the 340th or 750th day of their dating. I love this teenage relationship. It’s so sweet, although Yeon-su can get a little on the nerves. She, however, notes how he never really tells her that he likes her.
This flashback has a meaning – why did Ung spray water on Yeon-su? Well, that’s what he had told her… that if they break up and he sees her again someday, he will throw water and salt on her and throw her away. He, however, just throws water and she asks him what happened to the salt.
So, why is she there? Yeon-su tells him that she knows that he’s Ko-o. Although he denies vehemently, she gives him adequate proof that makes him realise that Yeon-su just knows him too well. However, she is not here for Ung, rather, for Ko-o. She tells him the business proposition, which he refuses to do.
He asks her why she’s here since he told her that he never wants to meet her. She asks him why he isn’t over it after 5 years? He counters, how is she so casual after just 5 years? Not coming to a conclusion, he asks her to leave but things get a bit awkward with NJ there. Before she leaves though, he throws salt on her with the most deadpan expression – it’s so funny.
Anyway, NJ wants Ung to draw the buildings that she owns but the conversation gets a bit personal and candid when she tells him about how she finds no joy in life and that he seems distracted and bored of her. Meanwhile, as Yeon-su is going back home, she meets Ji-ung and it seems like he has a crush on her. That evening, he meets Ung and gives him a piece of his mind regarding how he treated Yeon-su.
The next morning comes as a shock to Ung, who gets to know that the project that he said no to is designed by his favourite architect Jean Ferrat. Eun-ho makes a point – he now has to beg Yeon-su to let him do it since he can’t let anyone else take up the work. He refuses at first, but Eun-ho asks him to see the building first before making a decision.
As Ung takes a tour of the store, Yeon-su and Do-yul are there as well, going through what should be changed and perfected. Eun-ho spots them, and like the typical hyperactive Kdrama bestie, talks too much without reading the room.
Anyway, Yeon-su’s work goes on the line when it is revealed that, in her drunken stupor, she had told Do-yul that Ko-o is her ex-boyfriend Ung and that she is having a problem facing him. It’s so awkward and it will give you second-hand embarrassment on her behalf. He tells her that if she’s unable to get over her personal feelings, then he has to replace her.
After he leaves, she gets on the elevator with Ung and it obviously gets stuck on a floor. She admonishes him for acting immature and childish the other day and tells him that he needs to grow up – it’s been 5 years. Ung, however, asks her – what if I was serious and didn’t act childish? Would you have managed? Yeon-su asks him what he would have done if he were sincere. He, again, doesn’t answer her and leaves as the elevator doors open.
As he comes back home, he finds NJ sitting outside in her car. She asks him why he hasn’t been responding to her texts and after some chit-chat, she drives off. Meanwhile, Ji-ung agrees to do the project after watching tons of old footage. When he tells the two the news though, Ung refuses to do it, obviously, but Ji-ung doesn’t give him an option. Of course, they do it mostly against their will, just like last time.
- Yeon-su and Do-yul discussing her last night’s shenanigans is absolutely hilarious and entertaining.
- NJ is dying to know and meet Ung and get a response from him.
Final Thoughts: Our Beloved Summer episode 2
Our Beloved Summer just gives me such happy and familiar vibes! I can’t stress enough how much it reminds me of Hometown Cha Cha Cha! Just the vibes and the characters are so sweet and relatable. Anyway, the second episode goes deeper into the primary characters’ relationships and motivations. It’s sometimes deep but is mostly happy and light enough to not feel overburdened. I am really looking forward to seeing where the show goes!
Our Beloved Summer is streaming on Netflix.
