One Dollar Lawyer (천원짜리 변호사) is a Korean legal drama series directed by Kim Jae-hyun, starring Namkoong Min, Kim Ji-eun, Choi Dae-hoon, Lee Deok-hwa, Park Jin-woo and Lee Chung-ah alongside other cast members. Namkoong Min was last seen in 2021’s The Veil, while Kim Ji-eun was last seen in Again My Life.
The series takes up SBS’ Friday-Saturday 10 PM KST timeslot, previously occupied by Today’s Webtoon. One Dollar Lawyer episode 4 has a runtime of 62 minutes.

One Dollar Lawyer episode 4 introduces our prime trio to a new kind of mystery involving a bloody case – murder. The initial moments of the latest episode have Ji-hun and Ma-ri butting their heads against each other with the familiar informality. It soon switches tone as a woman walks in to ask for Ji-hun’s help in her parents’ murder case, with her brother having been wrongfully suspected and taken into custody.
While Ji-hun accepts the case file from the suspect’s sister, he still has a long way to go before initiating his investigation as he must convince his remaining team of the cause. Speaking of, it has to do with the highest trending case at the moment, situated in the Pungjin-Dong locality. A swift flashback justifies Ji-hun’s adamant response to taking up the case. The suspect, Kim Min-jae, once helped them get their landlady off their backs for rent by painting a mural on the building’s wall, a task assigned to Ji-hun. He reminds Mu-jang that he’s indebted to Min-jae as he asked for his help in the hour of need in return for his favor.
Mu-jang and Ma-ri try their all to get him off the case but Ji-hun is hung up on the question of why Min-jae chose him to represent his case. To put this to rest, accompanied by Ma-ri, he pays the suspect a visit. While in a parallel scene, Ye-jin discusses the same case with Min-hyeok and how leading its prosecution would boost his image in society.
Ji-hun starts to unravel his doubts as the suspect claims his innocence but Ma-ri is taken aback by his nonchalant disposition despite losing his parents. He reveals that his father is in fact alive and in hiding because he’s the real perpetrator of the crime. The world has it against Min-jae because no one seems to back his ideas. Thankfully, Ji-hun is here to save the day. Once again, he decides to walk in his client’s stead but still wishes to clarify some uncertainties.
Min-jae didn’t get along well with his family but claimed that his parents’ relationship with each other was on even worse terms, resulting in the murder of his mother at the hands of his father. He admits that he approached the distinguished Baek firm for his case first but soon realized that despite their golden reputation they didn’t put in any effort to clear his name. Ultimately, this led him to Ji-hun’s door because he was unlike most power-hungry lawyers in the game.
Finally, Ji-hun drops by the Baek firm’s office to come to a conclusion. Ma-ri insists her grandfather keep up the pretense that they don’t know each other while Ji-hun initiates the conversation around Min-jae’s case. He jumps the gun and straightaway asks away his queries about why their firm dropped Min-jae’s case. Minh-yeok’s father, who was the leading lawyer on the case at the time explains that they never believed in his innocence and in his claims that the father is in fact alive. Ji-hun, on the other hand, has different thoughts to share, as always.
He makes up his mind to represent Min-jae but in the meantime also puts two and two together about Baek Ma-ri’s association with the firm. She is successful in misleading him by intertextually alluding to Namkoong Min’s character in Stove League, breaking the fourth wall as a comic interlude.
Min-hyeok’s father advises him to take on the case as a means to establish their character and a good impression in front of Mr. Baek, believing it to be an obvious win for them. Moving on, Ji-hun gets on with the investigation and sets up a meeting with Suyeon, Min-jae’s sister. However, she bails out at the last minute by lying to him and plans a rendezvous with her housekeeper Han Jae-sook instead but Ji-hun knows better and follows her trail with Ma-ri and Mu-jang.
In the final turn of events, after their return from the earlier scene, they end up at Min-jae’s house to verify his claims. Awaiting them in the woods right across the house is a shady character, whom they pursue without a second thought.

One Dollar Lawyer Episode 4 Ending
Upon sighting the flashlight in the woods facing Min-jae’s house, Ma-ri rushes out to chase the suspicious presence alone. In pursuit of this person, she accidentally steps on a twig in the dark. Carrying a knife in hand, the person turns around but Ma-ri hides behind a tree just in time. However, the edges of her blue blazer are still visible and the person starts walking toward her.
Ji-hun butts in before a mishap befalls them and reassures Ma-ri of her safety, telling her to stay behind. Stepping out, Ji-hun approaches the hooded figure in a daunting fashion, while the other reciprocates his movements too. The episode ends right before revealing the identity of this mysterious entry, leaving us on a cliffhanger.
One Dollar Lawyer Episode 4 Review
Taking up a murder case for the first time has raised the stakes for the One Dollar team. Namkoong Min is a force to reckon with as Ji-hun, you never know what surprise is cooking up in his head. Although the k-drama doesn’t seem to flout the overarching trajectory of the genre, the leading actor was indeed an exceptional choice for this show.
His antics elevate the entertainment factor with ease every time. On the other hand, Minhyeok, who’s supposed to play out as his rival amidst this legal tussle, is barely able to shine as a worthy adversary. An attempt is made to break the stereotypical cheesy rivalry subplot by introducing him as a side comic relief instead but it never reaches far enough to enhance the show’s distinction from others.
The storyline is definitely progressing, each time accentuating the enigma of its protagonist and his ways. Thankfully, Ma-ri is a person of her own too, and doesn’t need Ji-hun to define her despite their building romantic arc. Nevertheless, there’s no overlooking the formulaic tone of the series, something that could’ve easily been expanded upon to avert its foreseeable cards.
