Nineteen to Twenty Episode 4-6 reactions (열아홉 스물) are now out on Twitter after the premiere of the new Korean reality dating show on Netflix. Releasing the next three entries on the same day, i.e. on July 18, 2023, creators Kim Jae-won, Kim Jung-hyun and Park Su-ji have surely intrigued the international audiences with their brand new reality TV content that has now turned into an endearing binge session regardless of how “cliche” some may call it.
Previously released Korean reality shows on Netflix include names like Physical 100, Siren: Survive the Island and Single’s Inferno, and the latter most of these was also a dating show. Now the coming-of-age youthful series has replicated its concept, but among younger contestants. Lending it the looks of the “teen version of Single’s Inferno“, as some netizens have been calling it since the first few episodes aired last week.
Hosted by Cho Kyu-hyun aka Super Junior Kyuhyun, Kim Ji-eun, AKMU Lee Suhyun and Jeong Sewoon, 19 to 20 has welcomed a group of teens including four boys – Moon Se-yeon, Lim Jung-yun, Oh Sang-won and Lee Ji-min, and four girls – Jeong Seo-young, Choi Seo-hyeon, Noh Hee-ji and Choi Ye-rin. Two new additions were also introduced to the lot, namely Jeong Ji-woo and Kim Pyeong-seok, who’ve now been well integrated into the group. The first three episodes had the viewers rooting hard for Se-yeon and Ye-rin’s ship, but now, as the other two new introductions have settled in with the lot, interests are starting to drift towards other new-found fan-favourites.
And of course, wild card entries like this are bound to stir up new drama, which as expected, did cause some tensions to arise between the first pair of young and doe-eyed teenagers everyone was hoping to be the endgame. Se-yeon’s growing interest in Ji-woo has led him to sideline Ye-rin, even if so subtly, at some points. Netizens aren’t taking this lightly, and many of them are rightly defending Ji-woo’s name while also looking out for Ye-rin and her loveable goofy energy that deserves the best.

The show’s hosts were seen experiencing second-hand embarrassment due to Jung-yun’s high-key shy energy around Ji-woo at first. However, all that is gradually turning to dust, especially since the viewers are turning in his support and hoping for him to end up with her in the end. Another favourite pair, that of Hee-ji and Pyeong-seok, has jumped high. Last few episodes particularly generated even more love for these contestants together, and Twitter users left messages like, “Heeji and Pyeongseok are the cutest one while riding ferris wheel”.
For now, the three evident pairs leading the race are that of Hee-ji and Pyeong-seok (the “hyper GF-calm BF” duo), Jung-yun and Ji-woo (the new entry) and Seo-hyeon and Sang-won (the silent heart-winners since Day 1). We still have a long way to go, so there’s still enough time for Se-yeon and Ye-rin to patch it up eventually if they want to. We’ll just have to wait to find out if these favourite pairings will make it to the endline as close-knit units or not.
