Netflix’s Floor is Lava Review: Is that Lava Scathing Hot?!

Floor is Lava is a reality television show hosted by Rutledge Wood. The series gets the name from 80,000 gallons of bright red goop that is supposed to fill-in for lava. Winners in every episode get $10,000 and a lava lamp.

Sometimes, when you’re just thinking about watching something but don’t feel like getting into anything serious, you just want to experience something fun and light-hearted. Like, some show that doesn’t make you think too much, is extremely fun, and is also a bit thrilling. Well, that’s Floor is Lava for you. The series is also a reminder of the olden days when you used to watch Legends of the Hidden Temple on TV. Well, if you loved that, you’re definitely going to enjoy this.

There is a total of five different obstacle courses – Basement, Bedroom, Planetarium, Kitchen and Study. They are divided into two difficulty levels. Three different teams take part in each course, and there are two ways to win. Firstly, points are given according to the number of people who complete the course. And second, if two or more teams tie, then the team who completed the course the fastest wins. Sounds kinda easy.

But it’s not!

Don’t forget that you have to traverse the course while there’s bubbling lava underneath! It’s slippery and slimy and makes everything it touches really yucky. And apparently, it’s hot too.

Floor is Lava

Now, if you’re wondering if it’s really hot, showmakers Irad Eyal and Megan McGrath, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter said that, although the contestants really went out of their way to show that the lava is hot, they were not asked to do so. The creators had asked everyone to have fun while playing, and probably that’s where the “lava is hot” notion originated. I mean, honestly, if I’m playing an obstacle course with my friends or family and there’s a slimy goop referred to as lava, you bet I’m gonna act like it really is!

However, they also mentioned that, even though it looks gross, it is perfectly safe for people to be submerged in – and now I’m really jealous!

Along with the discussion among the contestants, host Rutledge Wood also provides commentary in the background, which is quite hilarious and full of puns. Those puns made me cringe, but were delightful nonetheless.

More than the lava, it’s hilarious to see grown men and women fully committing to their part of playing in lava, and screaming in agony when their fellow contestants fall and “drown” in it. It’s hilarious and honestly, thrilling and fun. You’d wait with bated breath while the contestants try to make their way through the crazy obstacle course – which is extremely slick. And you’d also celebrate with them in their victories.

Some of the contestants made their way across the field with amazing tenacity and focus. Apparently, the showrunners have said that it is impossible to get to see the entire course from a single place, so that makes it even more difficult – because you’ll have to make up a plan as you go!

 Summing up: Floor is Lava

Floor is Lava

Floor is Lava is an extremely fun and engaging show that will take you back to when you were young. It’s a dose of childhood that we honestly all need during these tough times. A through-and-through entertainer, this one’s a must-watch if you want some good old-fashioned, no-nonsense entertainment with the entire family, while strategizing the next move for the obstacle course.

There are hilarious photos of Rutledge Wood throughout the course which are extremely funny, and add to the entertainment factor of the show. All-in-all, Floor is Lava is some kiddie entertainment, and we’re here for it!
