You Are My Spring episode 3 recap

You Are My Spring episode 3 starts with Da-jeong thinking about the music box that Chae Jun had left behind. There was an envelope inside that she opens up and starts reading. In the letter, Jun confesses that on March 13, 2003, he had killed Kim Myeong-ja. He further states that on June 3, 2018, he killed Lee Jeong-beom in the back alley at Pungji 8-dong and on December 18, 2020, he had killed Cho Gwang-hun. He states in the letter why he did what he did and this leaves Da-jeong in a trance. She is unable to believe how this all came about.

However, if he really was a sociopath as Young-do had described and was such a prolific killer, why did he confess and commit suicide? I think that there’s more to this than meets the eye. It can’t be that simple.

Anyway, the cops arrive on the scene in You Are My Spring episode 3 and Detective Ko asks Young-do how he knows Jun. He tells him everything and just then they get news that Da-jeong has arrived at the station with his letter. It is here that we also get to know that his real name was Choi Jeong-min. His real name makes Da-jeong wonder if anything about him was real and just then the detective and Young-do come to the station.

Da-jeong is obviously surprised to see him, but the shock on her face overshadows everything. Ko tells Young-do to go home since his involvement with the case is now a little complicated and he needs to look into a few things. He also asks him to take Da-jeong home since she is very shocked.

As Young-do sees Da-jeong coming out of the station, he wonders about the look on her face, saying that he has seen this look before – it’s neither sadness nor rage. He thinks about all the ways in which he can comfort her, but again, there really isn’t anything he can do either. They go out to eat first in You Are My Spring episode 3 and Da-jeong is seen visibly shaking and unable to eat.

When they come home, her friends are waiting for her to arrive. Young-do tells her that he has called them since it’s not a good idea to be alone at a time like this. As they walk off, we see Park Cheol-do running back and into Young-do’s car. He tells him that Da-jeong has told him to stay with Young-do since he shouldn’t be alone at a time like this.

We then see both Young-do and Da-jeong up and about at night while their friends are fast asleep. They both eat the digestive tables indicating that they are both going through something similar.

The next day in You Are My Spring episode 3, Young-do and Cheol-do meet Seo Ha-neul (Ji Seung-hyun, Hello, Me!), who is at the Gugu building to probably lease the second floor which is vacant. Ha-neul is a vet, and right off the bat, I like him because he likes cats and treats a cat named Gorilla. How cute is that?!

Anyway, Da-jeong is still sad about what happened the night before, of course, and as she sits alone at the café, Young-do joins her. After some discussion about coffee, she invites him to go to Gangneung with her and Young-do accepts the offer willingly. It turns out that Eun-ha and Cheol-do were the ones who wanted her to be accompanied by someone, but since no one was available, she asked him. Either way, he agrees to go with her.

At the station in You Are My Spring episode 3, Detective Ko is still thinking about the case. He seems to not be buying into the fact that the evidence adds up that perfectly. He talks to Jeong-beom’s grave and discusses his reservations regarding the killer. We then see Da-jeong and Young-do driving and the vibe between them is very funny.

At Gangneung, Da-jeong tells Young-do to chill out at some other restaurant and as she is about to cross the road, she is almost run over by a scooter. Turns out it’s her mother delivering pizza. It’s an awkward encounter, to say the least. Later on, he picks up Ahn Ga-yeong’s call to the pizza place, saying that she needs 30 pizzas. I don’t understand why this was necessary to be included, but anyway.

Her mother pushes Young-do into the water while laughing, in You Are My Spring episode 3, and Da-jeong gives him Kang Tae-jung’s clothes to change into. Sitting at the beach, Young-do tells Da-jeong that it will take some time for her to feel normal again. However, she says that she doesn’t wish to waste one more minute on Chae Jun. However, they still decide to talk about her feelings and what she’s going through.

In the next few minutes of You Are My Spring episode 3, we see Da-jeong going about her routine, with Young-do talking about heartbreak and the pain associated with it. Da-jeong, in spite of putting on a brave face, looks broken when she’s alone.

The detectives, on the other hand, are combing through the surveillance videos in You Are My Spring episode 3 and find out that a homeless man was the one who put the letters in Chae Jun’s locker. When they question him, he says that someone else had asked him to put it there. The lead seems to not go anywhere.

Young-do is sure that it wasn’t Chae Jun who murdered all those people – something seems to be off about the whole thing. Ko doesn’t want to believe it though, and screams at him for suggesting otherwise; that would imply that he still hasn’t apprehended his colleague’s killer.

We then jump to 2018 in You Are My Spring episode 3 – the day Jeong-beom was murdered.  We see Young-do walking around the hospital with his saline drip and Ko rushing to learn that Jeong-beom is brain dead. We learn that Young-do got Jeong-beom’s heart – he and his friends are ecstatic. Later, he learns about the circumstances surrounding Jeong-beom’s death. Afterwards, he goes to meet Ko, but it’s difficult for him to see him. I liked this scene; it’s emotional and will touch your heart.

Anyway, back to the present in You Are My Spring episode 3, we see Ko and Young-do deciding to investigate the murder again, from square one. Neither of them is convinced that Chae Jun did it – however, Ko tells Young-do that he and Da-jeong might be in danger and thus to keep an eye out.

Netflix's You Are My Spring Episode 3 Recap: He Returns 15

At the Gugu Building, Young-do gives Da-jeong her brother’s clothes back and she gives him a figurine of Doctor Hollow. The idea behind it is sweet and will bring a smile to your face. She thanks him for everything that he has done for her and he apologises for not warning her sooner. This marks the beginning of their friendship… and maybe something more?

At work the next day in You Are My Spring episode 3, Da-jeong sees someone who makes her stop in her tracks. She looks scared as if she knows who that is or remembers something about him. Don’t worry, we get to see why she looks so horrified – it’s Chae Jun!

I think You Are My Spring episodes are purposefully being coy with packing the punch. You get to see something shocking at the end, however, the rest of the episode is quite slow and there are moments when you wonder what the point of something was. It’s also a little confusing to think where the story wants to go, since it focuses on people and situations that don’t really turn into anything solid at the end. However, it remains to be seen where we go from here. Right now, I am a little confused and conflicted.

You Are My Spring is streaming on Netflix.
