Planning to Watch The Days? All You Need to Know About the Upcoming Japanese Thriller

Netflix’s upcoming release is titled The Days and, it is a Japanese thriller that promises to be dark and provocative. Netflix has always given us a good show when it comes to documentaries or shows based on real events. From Inventing Anna to Don’t f*ck With Cats, the platform has only enhanced its content in this category.

The Days is directed by Masaki Nishiura (Code Blue) and Hideo Nakata (Ring). The writer for this miniseries is Jun Masumoto (Code Blue, Shiroi Kyoto, Hadashi no Gen), who also has developed and produced it. The production company includes Warner Bros Film and Lyonesse. Ahead of the release of the show, let us have a look at what are we signing up for.

The Days Cast

The cast for this miniseries features Koji Yakusho as Masao Yoshida (this is a real-life person who worked as the plant manager at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in 2011 during the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami in Japan), Yutaka Takenouchi as the Shift Supervisor, Fumiyo Kohinata as the Prime Minister and Kaoru Kobayashi as the Operator. The other cast members are Takuma Otoo, Ken Mitsuishi, Kenichi Endo, Yuriko Ishida and others.

The Days Plot/Synopsis

The official trailer description for the series reads: “At 2:46 p.m. on 11 March 2011, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake with a maximum seismic intensity of 7 (recorded at Kurihara-cho, Miyagi prefecture) struck approximately 130 kilometres off the Sanriku coast. One hour after this earthquake shook the islands of Japan, a 15-meter-tall tsunami swallowed up the Fukushima nuclear power plant in an instant. But that was only the start of the nightmare. With its cooling function lost, the power plant fell into a dangerous and uncontrollable state.” The show will depict the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident.

The Days Release Date and More

The series is scheduled to arrive on Netflix on June 1, 2023. It is a Japanese language thriller but, Netflix usually has dubbed versions of its foreign language shows in English. Thus, we are expecting the same for this. There will be eight episodes in total.
