Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 5 recap:

If you guys remember, Hye-jin and Du-sik were having a very fun night in the last episode and in Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 5, Hye-jin wakes up beside him. Obviously, she is mortified at the situation and runs out before Du-sik wakes up. The entire town gets to know about her “tryst” before she even reaches home.

Du-sik doesn’t seem to be very bothered by what happened last night and we can see why later. Apparently, Du-sik was completely sober while Hye-jin went completely out with the celebration throughout town. It’s absolutely hilarious.

Everyone in town absolutely loses their mind when they see Du-sik and Hye-jin having breakfast together. They have “hangover soup” while all of them keep an eye on them. But Hwa-jung asks them all to stop gossiping. However, the gossiping just doesn’t stop. It’s a fun take on who is better than whom.

Anyway, after the meal, Du-sik asks Hye-jin to join him for a coffee in Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 5. However, she asks him whether he likes her. He says that’s not the case and Hye-jin, in an effort to justify her question, hurts Du-sik by saying that they aren’t a good match anyway since they are from different social positions. Meanwhile, the townsfolk discuss Du-sik’s background and childhood and the exposition dump is a fun way to learn about the man who can do everything.

We also get a background for Hye-jin and to understand why she is the way she is and it all stems from her being humiliated by a boyfriend when she was a student. There’s a heart-warming moment between Du-sik and Gam-ri and her friends after this that might melt your heart – so beware!

Next, as Romantic Sunday by J. Island plays, we get a scene where Du-sik is taking photos of Gongjin. He meets Sung-hyun taking pictures. However, the latter almost falls over the edge into the ocean while not paying attention. Du-sik saves him and they end up talking about their cameras and then he sets off to go to the observatory. Well, Du-sik has to take him there because he has a terrible sense of direction.

Hye-jin and Mi-seon, on their way home, meet Cho-hui and hope to get along. Meanwhile, Du-sik takes Sung-hyun to eat and the latter is absolutely blown away by the amazing food. However, he criticizes some of the food and they get into a fight. Meanwhile, Hye-jin’s meditation brings to light how she was wrong to say some hurtful things to Du-sik.

On the day that Hye-jin is supposed to teach about cavities at the elementary school, Mi-seon dips out since she’s sick. The latter has employed Du-sik to take her place and Hye-jin is pissed with her friend. Although the presentation part goes well, the kids start asking them questions about their personal lives in Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 5. It’s a little awkward to watch because no class full of students are ever going to ask a doctor, with the teacher present, whether they are dating or if they will get married.

Anyway, the bell rings and the kids run out so thank god for sparing us the horror. After it’s all done, Du-sik asks Hye-jin for his payment. When she tells him that she will wire the money, he tells her to take him out to eat. Once at the diner, in Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 5, she apologises for the social position talk and immediate hands him two questions to solve to prove that he went to Seoul National University. However, at this point, I think they just like doing this to each other.

Later, as it starts to rain, Du-sik takes off holding Hye-jin’s hand. On the beach, getting drenched, the two play with the water on the seaside. As Du-sik touches her face, she remembers that she had kissed him the other night. When she asks him whether he’s sure nothing happened between them, he says that he’s sure – nothing happened.

Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 5 ends with a doctor, guessing a psychiatrist, asking Du-sik whether he’s still having the nightmares. He says that he is. He later wakes up beside Hye-jin, with her resting on his arm, and smiles looking at her.

Additionally, a love triangle is brewing between Hwa-jung, Gyo-jin and Cho-hui. Plus, will Sung-hyun be a love interest for Hye-jin?

Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 5 is a mixed bag. There were quite a few very sweet, romantic and emotional moments. But there were also plenty of moments where situations were added just to pad the runtime. The next episode teases another fight between the leads, where Hye-jin asks Du-sik to stop crossing boundaries. This saddens me since I genuinely feel that the two care for each other. However, Hye-jin’s constant hot-and-cold attitude might just push things over the edge. Regardless, it’s going to be something to look forward to.
