Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 12 recap:

Ah, romance. Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 12 is rife with it! The episode begins with Hye-jin and Du-sik looking content and in love as they fool around with each other – sprinkling water and eating watermelons. How absolutely blissful. Shin Min-a and Kim Seon-ho look the part of the two lovebirds, their chemistry is great.

However, as Du-sik closes his eyes, we are transported somewhere inside his head, where he is alone in a vast nothingness. He looks lost and confused and all of a sudden hears a child screaming. He calls out to Hye-jin and gets no answer when all of a sudden, he is confronted by himself who asks him whether he deserves to be happy. Clearly, something happened in his past that makes him think that he’s undeserving of all the things that he has got.

When Hye-jin wakes him, he gets up with a start and immediately embraces his girlfriend in Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 12. Hye-jin asks him whether he had a nightmare and when he says yes, she comforts him. Anyway, Du-sik is startled to find Hye-jin already up and ready and asks her what time it is – it’s 4.30 am and Hye-jin is up so early to watch the sunrise with Du-sik. They, however, miss it, much to Hye-jin’s annoyance.

Du-sik seems to be a little uninterested in these plans. However, when she says that they should go there every day until they see a clear sunrise, Du-sik springs into action to show her the sun beneath the clouds. Newsflash: it’s a perfectly overcast sky.

Later on that day, in Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 12, Hye-jin whips out her Excel skills to make a bucket list of things to do with Du-sik, all 100 of them! When Mi-seon sees the list though, she says that Hye-jin has forgotten the most important thing – having sex. Hye-jin is mortified at the insinuation and calls her gross. She says that they are trying to take it slow for the time being, but the thought does bring a smile to her face.

When Du-sik comes home that day, he is surprised to find Hye-jin there. After some banter, she asks him to get washed up. Du-sik, thinking it’s something else entirely, runs off to do as he is told. Turns out, it’s couple’s yoga, and Du-sik absolutely hates it. They abandon the idea after one try and then take a couple of adorable pictures right after having a couple’s teeth brushing session.

When Du-sik finds the bucket list, he finds it cute and agrees to do all of them with Hye-jin. She asks him whether they should go on a date to Seoul that weekend and is surprised when Du-sik excitedly agrees.

That night, in Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 12, Du-sik and Hwa-jeong ask for an emergency neighbourhood meeting and lets everyone know that four people are going to get a chance to feature in Seong-hyeon’s show where JUNE will prepare something for them. Since Gam-ri’s place is being used, she is automatically invited and Du-sik has been given the responsibility to choose the other four. There’s a clamour among everyone has everyone wants to be a part of it.

Thus, the only way to be fair is to draw names. The four people are – Chae-jun, Nam-suk, Yun-gyeong and Hwa-jeong, but she gives up her place to Yeong-guk. It’s the day of the shoot and everyone is nervous as all hell. The scenes of them eating and singing are just something else and Seong-hyeon keeps on saying that he’ll need to edit it out.

The group have a big dinner together where Hwa-jeong, Nam-suk and Yeong-guk bicker with each other. Chun-jae gets a plate of fried chicken and offers a drumstick to Seong-hyeon but Du-sik takes it and starts to eat it. He does it with the other drumstick as well. Once outside, the two talk about how lucky Du-sik is to be with Hye-jin and Du-sik tells Seong-hyeon to eat well since Hye-jin is concerned for him.

Well, Du-sik comes to meet Hye-jin afterwards in Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 12 and apologises to her for being jealous and acting out earlier. He also laments about eating Seong-hyeon’s drumsticks (that’s how he said it, I am sorry for the visuals) while Hye-jin laughs. He comments that he is discovering a new side of himself after she came into his life.

It’s Seoul weekend for the couple in Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 12 and they discuss the bucket list on the way to their date. They stop at a gallery before reaching Seoul. Du-sik talks about an art piece and why he likes simpler styles when Hye-jin asks him whether he took an art history class in college because he dated someone studying arts. However, he keeps on changing the topic and does a horrible job at it.

They then go out shopping and she transforms him according to her style since it’s on her bucket list in Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 12. And yes, there is a whole shopping montage with Du-sik wearing so many outfits. He looks cute in all of them but after he’s exhausted, they select one to buy. Hye-jin buys it for him as an early birthday gift.

Next, in Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 12, Hye-jin rushes off to buy a necklace that she has been eyeing for some time. Du-sik, sensing that she loves the necklace, wants to buy it for her. But when the price tag comes to be 5.55 million won, he is left speechless. He is further left speechless when Hye-jin tells him that she does not wear fake diamonds. The financial differences, of course, are quite in-your-face. Will this come to be a problem in their lives later on?

Anyway, they go to a place to eat in Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 12, but not before Du-sik comes across an old college mate. Both are shocked to see one another and after an awkward and brief conversation, he rushes off after giving Du-sik his card. At the restaurant, Du-sik looks like he’s feeling down and thinking about something. However, Hye-jin doesn’t pry.

When it comes time to drop her home, Hye-jin asks Du-sik whether he’d like to come in. But he refuses, saying that it’s late, and goes home. Hye-jin wonders whether it was because she spent so much money that he felt so bad.

The next day in Hometown Cha Cha Cha episode 12, Hye-jin texts Du-sik to take care of himself and that she misses him. It’s a wall of text, to which Du-sik just replies, “yes, you too.” Hye-jin is miffed that that’s his reply to her but Mi-seon tells her that it might be because he’s busy. He also blows over her invitation to have dinner, making her sad.

That night, she goes over to his house in an effort to talk. However, instead of inviting him in, Du-sik takes him to a little date night that he beautifully created. It looks incredible and Hye-jin is relieved. She tells him that she thought that he was put off by the necklace that she bought the other day. However, he tells her that that is not the case. He is not fazed by the things that she buys with her own hard-earned money since that is not his business.

However, he is sad to learn that she gave away her necklace since he made a jewellery box for her. She is floored by his expression of love for her and promises that she has a lot of other things to put there – the box will be full in no time.

As she sits there appreciating the effort he put in to make this beautiful memory, Du-sik tells her that he loves her. Hye-jin too reciprocates his feelings. It’s an absolutely heartfelt moment that will swell your heart with love.

The last scene is of Du-sik making a bucket list of his own, and creating the box for her – a present that he made himself.

Also:

  • I-jun wins a prize at school and Hwa-jeong calls Yeong-guk to let him know. They decide to have dinner later and Hwa-jeong tells her son that they’re having a celebration because I-jun worked hard. She also gives him permission to get the hedgehog from Hye-jin.
  • Mi-seon and Eun-cheol go out on a semi-date where he asks her out sitting on one knee.

This is a really sweet and interesting episode. Lot’s of things come to light, we get to know some people better and there are indications of getting to know a mysterious Du-sik better. It’s going to be a sweet ride, one that I am really excited for.
