My Hero Academia Season 7 Episode 13 Recap

After a brief recap, we’re immediately thrust into the action as Deku arrives in front of Tomura with remarkable speed. He could do that because the American crew, led by Cathleen Bate, is still in Japan despite orders to leave. With their strategic support, Deku accelerates his pace and reaches the battlefield faster than expected.

Upon arriving and witnessing the chaos, Deku is overcome with shock. The sight of his friend’s lifeless body throws him into deep despair, a reaction that Tomura had been counting on. Tomura knew that if Deku succumbed to mindless rage, his attacks would become predictable and less effective. This was precisely his plan when he targeted Bakugo, aiming to push Deku into emotional turmoil.

However, Tomura overlooked the presence of Lemillion, who embodies the spirit of All Might. Lemillion’s words of encouragement snap Deku out of his despair, reminding him that even lip service can inspire hope, just as All Might once did. His reassurance helps Deku regain his focus, pulling him back from the brink of hopelessness.

My Hero Academia Season 7 Episode 14 Review Pain Of The Heteromorphs

Like what happens usually, this episode did not focus on multiple heroes in their respective battles. On the contrary, we exclusively witness the extremely dire situation of the area surrounding the Central Hospital where Kurogiri is held captive. Kurogiri is considered a masterpiece among all the high-end Nomu, and thus, his securement is of utmost importance to All For One.

Hence, to do the deed, he sends Spinner, the Paranormal Liberation Front’s Lieutenant and his army of Heteromorphs. Their aggression in the mission to retrieve Kurogiri is driven by more than just determination. Over the course of history, Heteromorphs have been systematically physically and mentally abused and looked down upon. People with normal faces found them creepy and subjected them to unimaginable cruelty by beating or killing them.

The treatment slowly became better, but only in cities that are a melting pot of different cultures. Racism against the Heteromorphs still remained a major concern in villages and small towns. Thus, you can see that Spinner and his followers’ hatred comes from this very understandable position where they think they are fighting for true justice. They do not have faith in the heroes and hence have decided to pay an eye for an eye.

But in front of them are fighting Tentacole and Anima, who are Heteromorphs themselves. Anima was raised in a loving family in a city, which is why he did not face any racism, but things were different for Tentacole. He was subjected to mindless brutality but still retained his humanity and affection towards other beings. He still carries scars from all the abuse, but never once did he hurt anyone. Thus, in this episode, we see a fight between two ideologies where both are dejected souls, but one is fighting for the good, and one is for evil.

Verdict

Today’s episode was much more emotional, and we learned a lot about the problems this society has. Yes, things are different now from before, but you also see where some of the villainous mindset comes from. They were once innocent people, but after being subjected to vicious treatment, they strayed from their path. See the episode to find out which side wins at last.
