My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 3 Review- To Be A Villain

I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been worn down by the internet discourse surrounding the show or just a tiny bit underwhelmed by the series’ previous offering, but I expected this season to be not as good as the show had previously been. The direction that the show was going on wasn’t one I was disappointed by, but at the same time, I wasn’t as excited by it as I had been for previous arcs. However, these first three episodes have wiped those fears clean and proven that the show’s quality is just as consistently high as it has ever been.

Seriously, what a ride. The entirety of Season 5 was spent building up to this, and while that may not have been as consistently good, it was successful enough in setting this season up to have the most exciting start possible. It feels like a breath of fresh air to see this massive operation take place right in front of our eyes with the involvement of this many characters that the show set into place and displayed with love and care. Even the maligned Class A vs Class B arc had an involvement here, which was great to see.

The fast pace of this narrative continues as we are now in the underground lair section. There is almost too much going on at once, but once you start paying attention, you see so many tiny details and Hero involvement being woven into the narrative. The plot is moving ahead at a breakneck pace right now, which is a nice change of pace. Each episode focuses on a different set of characters and showcases their struggles in this one battle that is all going on in real time, making it feel the sequences and connections feel fluid.

My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 3 was mostly about Twice and Hawks, with a little sprinkling of Tokoyami’s Dark Shadow and Fat Gum, mixed in between. Twice was absolutely phenomenal in this episode, as he is in most of his appearances. He is wonderfully conflicted and has a fascinating ability to get the audience invested in him due to his issues. That was made much easier due to the fact that he wasn’t inherently evil like some of his other friends. He is just so ride-or-die that he will follow his friends no matter what actions they partook in.

In a way, Hawks is the perfect foil for him because he doesn’t make emotional connections at all. Despite his outward appearance, he is quite withdrawn and cold in his actions, appearing almost heartless to an extent at certain times. His no-mercy attitude has gotten him this far, and that’s what caused the prime conflict of this episode to occur. It almost made you root for the villains for once, which I expect to become quite a common theme in this show. You just can’t keep a show going where the authority figures are the ones that are always right. Not in these times.
Verdict
My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 3 was fantastic! It had a tight narrative and moved forward at a breakneck pace to bring a conclusion to one of the more fascinating arcs from the previous season.
