My Happy Marriage Season 2 Episode 4 Recap

This episode focuses on Usui, who claims to be Miyo’s father. He makes an unexpected appearance before Miyo, Kiyoka, and Arata, insisting that he merely came to greet them. Throughout the meeting, he repeatedly refers to Miyo as his daughter and assures her that he will visit again. Whether his claim holds any truth is left a secret. However, one thing is clear, Usui’s true intent is Miyo’s capture, regardless of their presumed connection as he needs her abilities to further his own agenda.
Comprehending the possible threat, Kiyoka takes steps to ensure Miyo’s safety by arranging for her to stay at the Imperial Army headquarters. This allows him to protect her while also keeping a closer watch on any coming danger. He also invites both Miyo and Arata to a meeting where they learn more about Usui’s abilities.

It is revealed that Usui possesses the power to manipulate human senses and can infiltrate places. Additionally, the hostility toward the Usuba family becomes evident, as both Arata and Miyo face cold stares from those around them.
To further guard Miyo, Kiyoka assigns a female officer, Kaoruko, as her personal bodyguard.
My Happy Marriage Season 2 Episode 5 Review

Today’s episode was a lot more emotional than the previous ones, and it lacked action. In the beginning, we see how tough it is to be a woman in the imperial army as you get looked down upon all the time. Even though Kaoruko has earned the ability to stand on equal footing with others and can defeat them in one-on-one battles, she still gets looked down upon by her peers.
The man, whom Kaoruko beat previously, starts to badmouth her with his friends, and unexpectedly, Miyo defends her. She even goes as far as to say if he doesn’t want to acknowledge Kaoruko so badly, he should defeat her in a duel first. This is a significant growth in Miyo’s character, who would previously be demure and not utter a word. Perhaps now that she has a friend worth fighting for, she is showcasing more backbone than ever before.

But her healthy friendship with Kaoruko takes a new direction when the fact that Kaoruko used to be a potential fiance candidate for Kiyoka comes to light. Miyo indeed feels sad and a bit betrayed that her fiance never mentioned something like this to her, even after appointing Kaoruko as her bodyguard. However, she also has no ill will against Kaoruko, who is her very first friend. Kaoruko also feels guilty cause she really did have pretty strong feelings for Kiyoka, and it is not something that she can squash right away.
But when, on one side, we deal with emotions and bonds, the threat of the gifted communion and Usui looms over Miyo’s head. On top of that, she sees a very prophetic dream that hints towards a tragic future. How things will go is something that will be explored in the next episode.
Verdict

Today’s episode was interesting but also a bit dull because of its extensive focus on Miyo and her connection with Kaoruko. But nonetheless, towards the end, things pick up as we see the arrival of Usui.
