My Dress-Up Darling Episode 4 Recap

The episode kicks off with exciting news for Marin, as she gets the chance to take part in her school’s upcoming beauty pageant, which also allows her to cosplay. The catch? It’s a crossdressing contest where participants must dress as the opposite gender and impress their own. Thrilled by the idea, Marin decides to portray Ray-sama, a character from a well-known harem anime.

A large part of the episode is dedicated to exploring this fictional show, The Student Council President Is The No. 1 Host. In it, Ray is a girl who presents as a boy due to her circumstances, leading to a story full of dramatic and romantic shoujo tropes. Even Gojo finds himself captivated by it, drawing inspiration to craft the perfect costume for Marin.

However, there’s a hiccup. Gojo is also assigned to help with interior decoration for the event, which could limit the time he can devote to the costume. Amid all this, there’s a subtle yet sweet romantic moment shared between him and Marin, though it’s only Marin who ends up blushing.

This episode begins with Gojo planning how he will construct Marin’s costume with his grandfather. They discuss in detail what they must do, and here, Marin even spends time having dinner with Gojo’s family. The next day at school, we see Gojo creating the dress, and that is when Marin decides to make a Bento for him. She clearly got inspired by the character she’s supposed to cosplay, and we see her giving Gojo a dish with spam and rice.

This section further solidified Marin’s love for Gojo as she vehemently blushes when he excitedly accepts her food. She even goes on a ramble in her mind about how much she is falling in love with him. But this episode had many other things, like Gojo slowly opening up to Marin’s friends and talking to them. We also see Marin trying to sew a button for Gojo, and he finds it cute that she tried it despite messing it up badly.

Later, we see Marin preparing for her role. She managed to control her bust size and even controlled her mannerisms and walking, mimicking a guy. However, the diligent Gojo pinpoints a very minute mistake in his product, and he gets to work even though the deadline is near. Marin also supports Gojo in his work by believing in him, and this showcases her deep feelings for him.

Gojo even instructs her to be more manly in her behaviour, just like Amane was girlier in his behaviour while he was cosplaying. Thus, Gojo comes up with a brilliant idea, and he requests that Morita train Marin to act like him. They then go on to practise together from the way one stands to very minute details like postures.

I liked today’s episode as it shows just how passionate Gojo is about his work. Though we did not get to see Marin’s full cosplay in this episode, I am eagerly waiting for the next episode to finally see her in that outfit.
