My Dress-Up Darling Episode 2 Recap

The episode kicks off with a direct but important question from Nowa. Are Gojo and Marin actually a couple? It’s a fair thing to ask, considering how undeniably close the two have become. Gojo, ever mindful of propriety and how others perceive things, instantly shoots down the idea, not even hesitating.
Later, he reflects on the thought and feels it’s almost arrogant to assume that someone as outgoing and popular as Marin would ever see him in a romantic light. What he doesn’t realise is that Marin does like him and his firm denial stings her more than she lets on. For a moment, she even starts to believe he might dislike her. Fortunately, an event soon after gently reminds her of just how much Gojo truly cares.

When Marin falls ill, Gojo skips school just to look after her, showing just how far he’s willing to go for her sake. And when her friends unexpectedly visit, he hides out on the cold balcony to avoid being seen, braving the chilly weather without complaint. His actions speak louder than any confession as he’s thoughtful, selfless, and genuinely kind.
The second half of the episode shifts gears as Marin and Gojo head to a new cosplay photoshoot. Here, they cross paths with a new character, Amane Himeno, a fellow cosplayer whose costume and makeup leave Marin completely spellbound. This new encounter hints at some fun behind-the-scenes cosplay tricks, including a tease about how cosplayers achieve big boobs.
My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 3 Review

This episode starts from the part where Gojo and Marin meet Himeno. The conversation that they have with each other is an interesting one, as we get to learn about the industry of cosplay more intimately. From Himeno, we realise that apparently you can achieve big boobs without using chest pads. Himeno takes the protagonists to a shop where they can get every material they would need for cosplay, and even shows them important makeup kits.
Here, Gojo listens to him very intently because he wishes to understand how a guy like Himeno managed to pass off as a girl so convincingly. After that, they all have a very fun time at the convention, where more people come and explore their interests freely. We also dive deep into the life of Himeno and get to know that he had always been very conscious of his looks. Nobody took him seriously, and he hated how he came across. But after falling in love with makeup and crossdressing, now he is more confident about himself.

Things were going great for him, and he even got a girlfriend, but sadly, she was unwilling to accept him for who he is. This segment was truly powerful as Gojo finally sees a bit of himself within Hmeno. However, Himeno refused to be influenced by an outsider, and I think that will inspire Gojo to be more confident in himself.
The last segment was a lot more introspective as Gojo thinks about how he and Marin are from completely different worlds. But it surprisingly ends on a very funny note that I personally appreciated a lot.
Verdict

The best part of this anime is how effectively it manages to paint a positive picture of the anime cosplay world that usually faces hard criticism in Japan. In today’s episode, the messaging was also clear. Let people do what they love to do if it doesn’t cause problems for anyone.
