My Dress-Up Darling Overview

My Dress-Up Darling by Shinichi Fukuda is targeted toward a seinen demographic. It was serialised in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine from January 2018 until its conclusion in March 2025, and the story has been collected into 14 volumes as of November 2024.
The manga’s popularity led to multiple adaptations. An anime series produced by CloverWorks aired its first season from January to March 2022. The production was helmed by director Keisuke Shinohara, with scripts by Yoriko Tomita, music by Takeshi Nakatsuka, and character designs by Kazumasa Ishida. A second season was later confirmed and premiered on July 6, 2025, continuing with the original cast and crew. The second season introduced new theme songs, including “Ao to Kirameki” by Spira Spica and “Kawaii Kaiwai” by PiKi.

In addition to the anime, a live-action TV drama adaptation aired on MBS’s Dramaism block from October to December 2024, further cementing the series’ cultural presence. By May 2024, the manga had exceeded 11 million copies in circulation, highlighting its commercial success.
Internationally, the anime was simulcast by Funimation, which also released an English dub shortly after its initial airing. Following Sony’s acquisition of Crunchyroll, the series migrated to that platform. Muse Communication licensed it for Southeast Asia, expanding its global reach. Praised for its heartfelt narrative and detailed exploration of cosplay culture, My Dress-Up Darling has earned a warm reception from both fans and critics.
My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 Episode 2 Review

Today’s episode starts with the very important question that Nowa asks Gojo and Marin. Are they dating or not? This is a very legitimate question because the apparent closeness between Marin and Gojo is too prominent to miss even by their friends. Gojo, who takes things way more seriously, specifically when it concerns someone else’s reputation, denies this outright without even missing a beat.
Later, he also contemplates that it is very presumptuous to even consider the fact that a social bee like Marin can even imagine dating Gojo. Sadly, he doesn’t know that Marin is very much interested in him, and she is actually hurt that he denied the claim so strongly. She even goes on to conclude that Gojo might hate her. Thankfully, an incident right after this proves to Marin just how much she means to Gojo.

Not only that, when Marin falls sick, Gojo literally takes time from his school to attend to her. He even gets upset over people misunderstanding their relationship when Marin’s friends come over to check up on her. In this part of the story, Gojo hides on her balcony in freezing cold without even caring about his own well-being. Needless to say, he is a literal green flag whom anyone would love. Hence, it is no wonder that a girl like Marin is becoming so smitten with him so fast.
In the next segment, we get to know about the cosplay world a little more as Marin and Gojo both go for a new photoshoot. Here, they meet a new costplayer who goes by the name Amane Himeno. Marin becomes absolutely awestruck with Amane’s dress and makeup. This interaction promises some more information on how cosplayers get perfect boobs in the next episode.
Verdict

This episode again showcased a side of anime cosplaying that many might not know. These kinds of interesting tidbits are great to see amidst the rom-com scenes. Apart from this, the overall vibe of the story will definitely keep you entertained.
