Because the show can’t go two weeks without making a sex joke of some kind, My Dress-Up Darling Episode 11 takes place in the mothership of all situations of this variety, a love hotel. Let’s see what wacky shenanigans our protagonists were involved within this review!
My Dress-Up Darling Episode 11 Overview
My Dress-Up Darling or Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi Wo Suru in original Japanese is a romance and slice of life anime based on a popular manga written series by Shinichi Fukuda. It is being adapted into the medium of anime by Studio CloverWorks, a studio that hasn’t exactly been having the best time of its existence right about now. The studio has faced immense criticism in just the previous year for how it handled two anime properties, Wonder Egg Priority and The Promised Neverland Season 2.
Keisuke Shinohara is directing the show. He has been directly involved in the productions of various anime series in the past, including Wonder Egg Priority and Devilman: Crybaby. My Dress Up Darling Episode 11 Review- A Raunchy Adventure
“Will they or won’t they” has been a staple of a romantic slice of life anime for decades at this point. It is a simple way of extending your show’s runtime while still developing the characters in the necessary direction. Like most other tropes, there is a right and a wrong way to include this in any medium, and your mileage may vary depending upon how much you’re attached to the characters and the obvious ship that the show is going for.
Take, for example, the beautiful relationship that developed in the course of three months between Komi and Tadano, the main characters of another slice of life show that everyone (including myself) couldn’t stop raving about when it was on our screens, Komi Can’t Communicate. That show also has many elements like this, ones where the relationship between the characters is heavily teased but isn’t followed up on. However, it makes sense as a plot point in that show since there are issues that both Tadano and Komi suffer from that inhibit their ability to speak frankly and truthfully in front of each other.
However, while it works in Komi-san, it doesn’t seem to work as well with My Dress-up Darling. The relationship between Gojo and Marin had become stale after a bunch of episodes where nothing happened, and it hasn’t been able to recover since. New cosplays come and go, but their dynamic remains the same, and the two aren’t learning from and bettering each other anymore and are just going through the motions of an almost typical slice of life fair. The show even cheekily refers to its status as a slice of life anime in the episode, which didn’t accomplish much other than a wink and nudge to fans.
The storyline revolved around Marin and Gojo going to a love hotel to take cosplay pictures, and just with that sentence, you can guess exactly what happened in My Dress-Up Darling Episode 11. Gojo was earnest yet embarrassed, Marin was carefree and confident, and the two spent the entirety of their time focusing on the task at hand. The only exception was a steamy moment towards the end where one might have been forgiven for imagining that the plot was going to move forward. It, sadly, did not.
Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a bad episode by any means (except for the part where they showed a 15-year-old pleasuring themselves). There just wasn’t that much happening in it, but that is mostly forgiven if there is any character development due to the nature of this being a slice of life show. However, that also didn’t happen, and we are right where we started before the episode even aired. Needless to say that a lot rides on that final episode, and let’s hope that it delivers.
My Dress-Up Darling Episode 11 was another mediocre episode from a series that has shown that it is capable of doing much more. Let’s hope it regains some of that magic by the time the finale rolls around.
