Sara and Rudeus come close in Mushoku Tensei Season 2 Episode 3 after their ordeal in the previous episode. Too close for comfort, as some might put it. Let’s see how it went in this review!
Mushoku Tensei Season 2 Episode 3 Overview

Mushoku Tensei, also known as Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation or Mushoku Tensei Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu in original Japanese, is an adventure, drama and fantasy anime based on a light novel series written by Rifujin na Magonote and illustrated by Sirotaka. This episode is also known as Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 Episode 3 and Mushoku Tensei Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu Season 2 Episode 3.
The latest season of the anime is being directed by Hiroki Hirano, who served as an assistant director of the second part of the show’s first season. However, the studio that produces and adapts the anime remains the same, as that responsibility again falls to Studio Bind, who haven’t really done anything other than Mushoku Tensei. Mushoku Tensei Season 2 Episode 3 Review- Abrupt Approach

The first four paragraphs of this review are going to be an objective look at the contents of this episode, and the last one will be my personal opinion regarding the same. The show went all-in on the Rudeus-Sara storyline in this episode, showcasing a deeper connection forming between the two growing from the events which happened at the end of the previous episode, and despite it not being Rudeus’ first rodeo, this connection felt a little different. The air between them was more awkward than it had been for Rudeus with any girl, other than that interaction with Sylphiette.

It is obvious that he is trying too hard. He wants to be liked so that his reputation spreads, he wants to connect with people because they will be doing the spreading, and he ultimately wants to meet up with his mother again. However, the one thing that he wants to do but is unable to do is come to terms with the way Eris left him. It is eating him away to the point that it is now affecting his current relationships, which was displayed in a bombastic manner in Mushoku Tensei Season 2 Episode 3.

Sara gets very much into the idea of being intimate with Rudeus, leading to the second such scene in the series so far. However, this one was much different than the first one. Given how young Rudeus and Sara are and how young Rudeus and Eris were when this first happened, this has always been a weird aspect of the show to live with. It is understandable that the culture around this is probably much different where Rudeus live, but it is still hard to part with the perspective that we’ve all grown with, especially since Rudues comes from the same world we do.

The aftermath of their night together leads to a truly great moment where Rudeus lets loose for the first time, and the target is the man who said that he was fake in the previous episode- Soldat. Through an outburst, we come to know Rudeus’ true feelings, and that part was very well done. Soldat also isn’t as bad a guy as his first impression made him seem. We also got a look at how Rudeus actually feels about everything that has happened to him, and it was perhaps the most real he has been in many, many episodes.

This episode was better than the last one, and it had, in my opinion, the best scene in this season so far- Rudeus going to town on Soldat. However, the story currently being told in the show feels extremely cliche. I get that the point is to show Rudeus’ whole life without filters, but couldn’t his life have been better written than the same plot points we have seen so many times in the past? I don’t know what the show is waiting for, but it is not operating on the same level as the previous seasons.
Verdict
Mushoku Tensei Season 2 Episode 3 was a decent episode with some strong character work and a uniquely mature plot, but it struggled with commonly used tropes in storytelling.

No idea what cliches are you talking about ?
Just for example, what difference is there in the way Rudeus had Sylphie, Eris, and Sara fall for him?
