Murder Mystery 2 Movie Review Contains No Spoilers

Plot Summary

After solving a big murder mystery in the previous part, Nick and Audrey decide to switch careers as Private Investigators. Sadly, they struggle a lot to make the most out of their new profession and talent. While Audrey goes by the book on how to be a perfect investigator, Nick believes in trusting his instincts. It’s a mismatch already!

After a LOT of failed cases as PI, the duo takes a break and attends a wealthy Indian friend, Vikram’s wedding on his private island. Little did they know Maharajah Vikram would be kidnapped before the wedding. It’s Nick and Audrey’s time to shine again with their detective skills.

Murder Mystery 2 Review: Discussion

Murder Mystery 2 is a wholesome package of madness, comedy and errors (by the leading duo). What makes the movie so fun and exciting is how flawed and messed up our detectives are. After the kidnapping, when Nick and Audrey get into action to find clues and the truth, they cause more trouble. Every time they think they’ve found the answers, someone ends up dead.

The chaos and riddle get complicated when the story shifts to Paris. It also brings the best out of our actors. Jennifer is indeed a phenomenal actor, and she looks breathtaking in the Eiffel Tower scene. The entire set-up of a lavish Indian wedding is lively. Indians will hear some familiar songs from Hindi movies. The makers give us a good taste of the wedding rituals and waste no time shifting the amusing narrative to a suspenseful one.

Murder Mystery 2 Still 1

The messy investigation is what makes the Netflix film so enjoyable. The thing about such comedy whodunnit movies is that you predict who is the real culprit. It happened with Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery too. But the issue with Jennifer and Adam’s movie is that the revelations are underwhelming. The predictability has nothing to do with the letdown here. It’s the culprit’s motive that falls short of a better explanation.

What I also loved about the movie is how aware the writer and director are of the clichés of such a genre. Audrey and Nick would say out every murder mystery twist there are in such stories. The commentary leaves you in splits.

Despite the flaws, Murder Mystery 2 makes you laugh and is a good popcorn muncher (even at home). In times when the audience craves some light content, it fits the bill. The romantic and comical chemistry between Jennifer and Adam is amazing. Both the actors are a riot together and have done a great job.

Murder Mystery 2 Still 2

Murder Mystery 2 Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, Murder Mystery 2, despite a few flaws, entertains you with all the clichés of a whodunnit. It is not as exceptional as the first part, but not so bad. Jennifer and Adam are promising, and the supporting cast plays their parts well. The cliffhanger ending will leave the viewers more excited about what’s next.

The movie is now streaming on Netflix.
