Mother’s Day is Cancelled Review: Same Old Plot That Needs to Be Skipped Even After Speeding Up the Film

Mother’s Day is Cancelled review(¡Hasta la madre del día de las madres!) is about the new Spanish comedy film with a story of a Mother’s Day gone wrong, which only seems repeated and pushed for most of the parts. Directed by Javier Colinas, the film stars Gala Montes, Michel Duval, Leticia Huijara, Anette Michel, Alejandro Camacho, Ignacio Guadalupe, Axel Chunga Trujillo, and Giovanna Reynaud, alongside other cast members.

The plot of the film revolves around a newlywed couple who decide to bring together their families to celebrate Mother’s Day which soon becomes a mess for all. As secrets resurface and hidden thoughts are revealed, the couple needs to get through the mess in front while finding a way to save this day.

The film begins with a flash marriage which surprises the two families following which the “newlyweds” welcome Mother’s Day eight months later. Now, to bring some plot a problem is introduced the father-in-law decides to ask his son’s wife to help him out of this problem without letting anyone know.

Now, there is no way that the problem will not become a reason to ruin this day of celebration, but to add to this are two completely opposite mothers who are not so happy about spending time together. However, if there’s no foundation for chaos then how will the two women form a friendship while their families worry about them?

This film brings this very chaos that has been repeated in numerous scenarios to our screens and to add a touch of uniqueness, they give the actors dialogues that only make you think, why? The dialogue will make you question what kind of a character was intended to be created.

On one side, you have a “feminist” condemning everything as being sexist while the female lead tries to divert every conversation by mentioning a drama series. We also have an almost narcissistic brother who is sure that his sister’s sister-in-law is in love with him and the little brother whose stealing and blackmailing history only leaves you worried more than his parents.

Thus, a whole set of characters who have been put together in this film to keep it entertaining which only adds to the list of whys for the viewers. Adding on, there might be a few moments that could be funny for certain audiences but this is an overall disappointment which makes you question yourself for watching the film.

Summing Up: Mother’s Day is Cancelled Review

Mother’s Day is Cancelled is a film that should have been cancelled when the plot and characters were introduced. If you are going to make me watch a film with the same old plot and messed-up characters then I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t even want to watch it for free. While certain audiences may find something funny in this rubble, it will be like finding a needle in a haystack.

A simple waste of time and while you can give it a try, I suggest you skip on this one and keep it only for times when you need some noise in your house. But if you still want to give it a try then be ready with a speed controller, you will need it.
