Mnet Build Up Episode 3 Preview: Rival Mission Face-Off in Upcoming Challenge and The First Elimination List

Commencing the reality survival race on January 26, the new K-pop audition survival series is giving way to numerous emotional dramas every week as the contestants are now leading us into the third week of the show with the Mnet Build Up Episode 3 Preview. The Korean reality competition series (빌드업: 보컬 보이그룹 서바이벌) , originally holding the title Build Up: Vocal Boy Group Survival, has been directed by Ma Doo-shik, best known for his role on the talent search show Superstar K. It features 40 participants encompassing K-pop stars, musical actors, and idol trainees. Notable contestants include the former DAY6 member Im Jun-hyeok, Jeon Woong of AB6IX, Lee Dong-hoon of A.C.E, WEi’s Kang Seok-hwa, and JUST B’s Bain.

Hosted by actor Lee Da-hee, the survival reality show has the ultimate aim for the four last-standing contestants to debut as members of a vocal boy group that will be signed for two years. The Build Up audition series has welcomed a star-studded lineup of mentors for the boys. This stellar list of regular judges includes seven South Korean celebs – Seo Eun-kwang of BTOB, solo artist Kim Jae-hwan, Solar of MAMAMOO, Wendy of Red Velvet, Baekho, Lee Seok-hoon, and Seungkwan of SEVENTEEN.

The upcoming episode promises to seamlessly resume the competition from its last point, injecting an air of anticipation of more drama. The remaining participants from the top tier find themselves at a pivotal crossroads as they must deliberate and select a lone representative for an undisclosed challenge in Section L. Complicating matters, those in the higher grade may propose a duet, introducing a layer of collaborative tension where participants cannot refuse and must find common ground with Section T’s directives.

This collaborative venture serves as a precursor to a high-stakes 2v2 Rival mission, intensifying the competition. As the teams engage in head-to-head battles, the suspense builds, alliances are tested, and the looming threat of elimination adds an extra layer of drama, promising viewers an episode filled with unexpected twists and thrilling competitive dynamics.

Brief Build Up Episode 2 Recap

The episode commenced with the next stage of the PRE-4 Mission, featuring the song Shall I Love You Again? by Kim Dong-ryul. This particular piece emphasized the unique sensitivity of the original composition, with a focus on the profound and heavy bass elements. The performance was delivered by the Barista team, consisting of Kim Seo-hyung, Kim Seong-jeong, Yeo One, and Yun In-hwan. Among them, Kim Seong-jeong was chosen by the judges as the top-tier performer. Moving on to the next mission, the team tackled Newjeans’ Ditto. The performance featured WUMUTI, Jeon Woong, Kang Seok-hwa, and Jung Soo-min. Following their rendition, WUMUTI stood out and was selected as the top-tier performer from their group.

Following them, the remaining participants of the PRE-4 Mission showcased their exceptional skills. From each group of four, one participant was chosen as the top-tier performer. Subsequently, all participants were categorized into three sections: Section T, M, and L. The top-tier member from each team then selected one participant from each of the other sections to form trios. Together, they performed and were graded, resulting in the classification of one member as the low-tier performer. This process added a dramatic element, heightening the stakes and challenges for survival. Ultimately, the participants were driven by the common goal of proving their vocal prowess and surviving the competition.

The lineup for the Mnet Global Audition 2024 Build Up consists of 40 contestants, who have been categorized into different voice types. Among them, there are 11 unique voices, 10 soul voices, 7 power voices, and 12 all-round voices.The unique voice category introduces profiles of various contestants, including Musical actor Kim Seo-hyung, Wumuti from BOYS PLANET, UP10TION’s Lee Hwan-hee and Sunyoul, Singer-songwriter Taewoo, Lee Kwang-suk, AB6IX’s Jeon Woong, Hong Sung-won, Kang Ha-yoon, Neon, and Kwon Eui-bin.

In the Soul voices category, profiles of ONE PACT’s Jay Chang, NewKidd’s Lee Min-wook, WEi’s Kang Seok-hwa, Ma Jae-kyung, Jung Soo-min, A.C.E’s Lee Dong-hun, JUST B’s Bain, Kim Sung-jung, Park Joo-hee, and Lim Sang-hyun are included. The Power vocal category showcases profiles of Kim Min-seo, Park Jae-up, Choi Ha-ram, Lim Joon-hyeok, FAVE1’s Hyukjin, Jo Hwan-ji, and Yoon In-hwan. The All-rounder voices category introduces profiles of CIX’s Seunghoon, M.O.N.T’s Bitsaeon, VANNER’s Taehwan, Hong Seong-joon, Jang In-tae, Jang Yoon-seo, PENTAGON’s Yeo One, JUST B’s Lee Geon-woo, Choi Su-hwan, KNK’s Jeong Inseong, Hwang In-hyuk, and Ji Yeon-woo.
