Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Season 2 Episode 12 Review- Plot and Characters

I’ll preface this review by saying that I will only be talking about Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Season 2 Episode 12 as a singular entity here. If you want a review of the full season, click here! The final episode of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Season 2 was a great one if a little formulaic.

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Season 2 Episode 12 took all of the arcs that started and took place throughout this season of Dragon Maid, tied them all up in a neat little package and saw them all through a sweet ending. Tohru vs Elma, Ilulu and Take, Kanna and Saizawa, Shouta and Lucoa, Fafnir and Takiya, and most importantly, Tohru and Kobayashi all came through for one final time this season to treat us all with a glorious slice of life finale.

I mention it being formulaic because of the summer festival and how most slice-of-life anime tend to feature it in some form or another. However, familiarity is always a good thing, and there’s a reason why such episodes are so popular. They always tend to be quality episodes that do a lot of good for the overall characters and storylines that weave through the episode. It provides for an opportunity for everyone to come together, and that’s always welcome in an anime with characters as distinguished and varied as this.

Kobayashi tried to make sense of her feelings with Tohru, thinking about why someone like that would fall for someone like her. On the other hand, Tohru was just as carefree and bubbly as ever, knowing the strength of character of Kobayashi that leads to everyone she meets respecting her immensely. The twosome had some great interactions throughout the episode, with a lot of potential still left untapped for a Season 3 when we get it.

The other characters didn’t do much of anything other than just being themselves throughout the episode. Their interactions were very sweet, and I can never have enough of them just having a moment to be themselves. Overall, Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Season 2 Episode 12 was the end of a season that heavily featured character arcs separate from the core group. Thus the episode had to tie the arcs up somehow, which it did. It was the “sliciest of life” episode in a very slice-of-life season.
Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Season 2 Episode 12 Review- Art and Music
The animation in Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Season 2 Final Episode was spellbinding, to say the least. The gorgeous Tokyo skyline being animated against the beautiful summer festival backdrop was stunning to watch and experience. The lighting effects made the entire episode look like a beautiful fever dream, and an explosion of colourful manga panels came to life. The magicians over at Kyoto Animation deserve rapturous applause for the way they handled this entire season.
The choice of music tracks was also sensational. It felt like the music director went through all of the music they had composed this entire season and picked all the best ones to feature in Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Season 2 Episode 12. It made for a fantastical experience that will stick with viewers for a while after the series has ended.

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Season 2 Episode 12 was a fantastic end to a phenomenal anime season. The story brightened everyone’s day, and the animation and sound blew everyone’s minds away. Did anyone expect anything different?
