However, most were disappointed by her lack of creativity, but they were happy she took the pandemic seriously.

In her Tommy Hilfiger dress, the actor stepped onto the carpet to save the year of our lord 2019 because that is exactly what internet patrons were claiming at the time. What became even more famous was that the Jenner sisters wore dresses that made them look like the evil stepsisters from Cinderella while Zendaya crushed as the titular character. Stylist Law Roach played the Fairy Godmother’s role in lighting up the dress to life.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas Met Gala 2017
While her long trench coat made headlines, and some even commented that she shut down the Met, others were too excited to make the memes that compared her dress to the ‘malai’ on ‘chai’. Some even went as far as to use this moment to comment on the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and how this dress helps the cause.

After slaying for multiple years, even before this one, she peaked with this dress. Embodying different facets of New York City, the actor decided to wear a dress that transformed into a second outfit. Inspired by the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan’s architecture, the artist decided to emulate the changes the country has seen through this dress. Fans of hers and casual consumers of pop culture were also enamoured by her dress. It was one that invited a closer look.

Taylor Swift Met Gala 2016
With her hair bleached and a date that invited controversy, Swift attended the event in a metallic dress with scales. People absolutely ripped her dress apart, with a level of vitriol unexpected for something that was tamer than other attendees. While this may not have connected with people at the time, fans now go into detail by analysing her lyrics and finding that she had featured this night in her songs, making the outfit iconic in the Swiftverse.
Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez Met Gala 2021
Congresswoman AOC attended the event in a white dress with the words “Tax the Rich” on the back, and she was also ripped apart for the same. Many compared the text on top of the dress to the font of the fast food chain Chick-Fil-A. At the same time, others took to the editing apps to add their own messages to her dress. However, the internet had legitimate concerns about her working-class background because the Met Gala tickets were highly expensive.

Dressed in a canary yellow dress and train, Rihanna made her presence known clearly. Decreed the queen of the Met, she walked up the steps gracefully. However, the internet latched onto something a little more creative. They created memes from the dress, comparing it to an omelette or a pizza base. They have juxtaposed her dress on pans and plates to extract more humour from this outfit. However, many news platforms named her the best-dressed in that year’s roster.

An absolute internet favourite, Leto has always been at the centre of the conversation. This time, he was the internet’s favourite because he walked into the Met Museum with a life-size model of his own head that was much too expensive to be real. Most are afraid of letting Leto engage in public in the first place. He gave the head model to Shawn Mendes, and the social psyche snapped. However, consumers of the Met outfits are happy to see a man wearing something other than a suit.

While his dress may not have screamed white tie, he decided to go a step further and comment on the people who made the Gilded Age’s ostentatiousness possible in the first place. His outfit featured a simple coat over a pair of long boots and baggy pants that highlighted the works of immigrants and the working class during that time. He wanted to celebrate the unheard voices, a sentiment that many people felt strongly about. They were happy to see someone who always championed South Asian voices in the industry make a statement like this.

Camp was a pretty difficult theme for many people, but not for Gaga, who absolutely wiped the stairs with her four-outfit performance. Walking in with a big pink coat on, stripping it off for a black shift dress, then a pink gown and finally a lingerie pair, the artist made her mark on the attendees and the internet. Viewers were in awe that she managed to crush not just one but four outfits during this extremely elusive Met Gala theme. Her makeup and outfits on point; she was also decreed the queen of the Gala that night.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art will host the Met Gala 2023 on May 1, 2023, in New York City with Anna Wintour heading the gathering.
