The episode starts on a rather emotional note as the contestant Nazia shares her ordeal about her daughter’s deteriorating health and that she won’t be able to continue further, with the judges. They empathise and assure her that the doors of MasterChef India will be always open for her, whenever she wishes to come back.

Coming to today’s challenge, was unveiled by a drone carrying a box to the judges. It contained an immunity pin and consisted of two rounds in total. The contestants who will be selected in today’s challenge will be competing against each other in tomorrow’s challenge for the pin.

Today’s challenge was a fusion dish between their cultural identities aka the state the contestants come from and a foreign country. They had to mix both the cuisine together and make a new one, within 60 minutes. The countries featured, ranged from the USA to Vietnam, South Africa etc.

As the show is progressing, the contestants have also evolved in their methods, as everyone is quick to decide what to make and how. While cooking, judges visited every workstation and helped the struggling contestants with some efficient tips. Once the time was over, Priyanka was called upon to present her dish, which was a fusion of West Bengal and France.

She made a profiterole or a cream puff, with papaya plastic chutney, and praline, she was complimented for her presentation of contrasting orange colour elements on a black-coloured plate. Followed by Gurkirat who made a dish mixing Turkey and Haryana. He made Bakalava stuffed with Gajar (carrot) halwa and rice pudding. Judges commented that he came pretty close to the original.

Suvarna, who was last called out for bad plating, was surprised to get many compliments for her Maharashtrian and US fusion dish. She called it Majha Pie which was made of sesame laddoo, puran poli and aamras in the form of a pie. Aruna, who got Tamil Nadu and UK, made a Tiffin tea, a twist on the high tea. She made scones, rawa idli sandwich, Murukku with cheese etc.

After that contestants were called in quickly with Priya making a fusion of Lebanon and Karnataka food with a falafel-based dish, Deepa mixing Vietnamese Pho with Karanataka flavours, Avinash mixing Spain’s Tapas with Orissa-style Potol (pointed gourd), Dyuti fusing Bengal’s Misti Doi with Mexican flavours and called it Misti Fiesta but her caramel sauce was a bit burnt. Yashu made a dish called Aasmi, but we didn’t see any details about it.

Sachin made a fusion of Japan’s Yakitori in UP’s kebab style with a naan but it wasn’t up to the level that judges expected. Nayanjyoti made a black sesame cake fusing Germany’s black forest cake with Assamese ingredients. Santa made a Korean chicken with sticky rice and napa cabbage pocket salad, as she found the similarities with Assamese cuisine, but raised up the spice level with bhoot jolokia pepper.

Kamaldeep made a bunny chow from South Africa with Punjab’s corn and wheat flour and stuffed it with Sarso saag, while Vineet made Burmese and UP flavours mixed dish, which was visually very pleasing and included Tapioca rasmalai and Kimami sevai.

Final Thoughts: MasterChef India Season 7 Episode 11

After all the tasting, the qualifying contestants were revealed to be Aruna, Suvarna, Gurkirat, Nayanjyoti, Santa, Vineet, Kamaldeep and Priyanka. They will be competing for the immunity pin tomorrow. Meanwhile, the dish of the day was awarded to Suvarna who made the fusion of Puran poli.

The editing of this episode was quite better than the previous challenges, however by the screentime of the contestants, you can already realise who is qualifying and whose not, leaving no suspense till the end. Also, Yashu’s dish was not even shown properly for at least even 5 seconds. In fact, I can already predict who we will be seen in the finale and who will be leaving soon enough.

MasterChef India Season 7 is currently streaming on SonyLIV and a new episode is released from Monday to Friday at 9 PM.
