Little Siberia Review
The plot of the film follows a pastor who has recently moved to a small Finnish town where one night, a meteorite falls and becomes the talk of the town. This meteorite becomes the centre of everything happening in town, from plans of increasing tourism with its help to becoming the target of others who want the money earned from selling it all for themselves. While everyone is focused on the meteorite, the pastor is caught in his own mess when he finds out that his wife is pregnant which leaves him stunned as he became infertile after an accident.
Upon looking at this plot, we know that there is no one direction for this film as many stories will be playing out for us throughout the duration of the film. While this adds some weight to the storyline, it also creates a mess which soon becomes hard to follow for the viewers. I myself have found myself lost in some parts of the film, but it all comes together only in the end when things finally settle down.

While the plot mostly follows a random pace and gives us the unexpected, the characters are better built and you see them as individuals who slowly mature and develop over time. For instance (as he is the main character), the pastor who has a very robotic self at the beginning of the film slowly begins to show better expressions after the news of his wife’s pregnancy. It is from there that we see a lot more of his character, his approach to people, and how he can be a better person to them when he really wants to be. It is the mundane life in this small town that led him to become this way, but we soon see a better and more intriguing side to himself.
The film also holds some deep themes that require more time to think as you find yourself revisiting some scenes soon after the film ends. With scenes of the meteor travelling through space for billions of years to the pastor lying on an icy bed with white flowers blooming around him; we are made to acknowledge how we are but a small part of this universe. Yet, through all this, a miracle shines above this small town on this planet and brings to them an unexpected turn of events; showing us the presence of a mystic force that guides the universe into creating these miracles.
There are many such hidden themes in the film which make for a good experience for viewers, but if you are looking for endless entertainment that will keep your emotions on the edge, then this isn’t the film for you.

Summing Up
Little Siberia is an intriguing, deadpan, yet deep-thinking film with a charm of its own but lacks when it comes to entertaining the wider audience. It takes you to view the world in a different manner, but the random storyline that goes off in different directions brings down the magic and leaves viewers lost once in a while.
Watch Little Siberia on Netflix.
