Lazarus Episode 8 Recap

The episode kicks off with Christine being captured by the same group she encountered in the previous instalment. It quickly becomes clear that she has a past with them, and it’s soon revealed they’re part of a Russian spy network, one she was once involved with before defecting. Now, they’re determined to track her down and make her pay for leaving.
Meanwhile, the first half of the episode focuses on Hersch and her strong connection to Doctor Skinner. Her desire to find him is evident, and she even warns the Lazarus team to stay away from Christine. But their loyalty outweighs caution, and the entire crew heads to Oslo, planning to reach the offshore oil rig where Christine is being held.

Fortunately, they arrive just in time. Axel infiltrates the enemy base, setting off an intense sequence filled with action and suspense. He manages to find Christine, but their reunion is anything but warm; she questions why he even came for her. Her unease stems from a troubled past, and we soon learn that one of her captors was once her lover. The betrayal of being left behind has festered into resentment, and now that pain is coming to the surface.
Lazarus Episode 9 Review

Today’s episode starts with a mysterious man feeding on meat in a restaurant at a time when people are tense and afraid of the future. When he goes out, we see a strange scene of many people using guns and killing whoever they can find mercilessly, showcasing the deterioration of society after Skinner’s announcement. The mysterious man walks in the middle of the road amidst falling bodies as if nothing can affect him. In this episode, one thing also becomes extremely clear: Axel and Doug are very much aware that once they find Skinner, they might be disposed of because they know too much.
We again find out another shocking aspect: Leyland was a mole planted within Lazarus so that he could report their dealings to the higher-ups. The higher-ups are definitely not in favour of Lazarus, and they are trying to get rid of them. However, just at that moment, Skinner drops another video where he claims that the first death from Hapna will happen within 10 days, and it will be him. This means he is also someone who did not take the antidote and is very sad that humanity is still not understanding the grave consequences ahead.

Later in the episode, we get to know that the mysterious man we saw at the beginning is an agent of a serial killer called the Phantom Killer. Apparently, the people who want Lazarus to be dissolved want to hire an assassin to take out Axel. This new character, called Soryu, is definitely a ruthless killer who mercilessly showcases his talents on why he should be feared.
Verdict

Today’s episode again makes very little sense because why are the government officials, who clearly should try to find Skinner or the antidote to the drug Hapna, trying to kill Axel, who is literally doing their job? The anime really makes very little sense, and even though only a few episodes are left, I do not know how they will manage to connect all the dots and justify whatever plot points they have showcased.
