Koffee With Karan Season 7 Episode 5 starts with Karan Johar calling himself the host and roast of the season. He talks about liking the trolls and memes and being called the Big Daddy of the star kids. KJo blames the viewers for making the star kids big because of all the attention people gave to the youngest superstar in town – Taimur Ali Khan. After a long introduction, Karan invites today’s guests – Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
“Aamir, you didn’t get the memo?” asks Karan because the Laal Singh Chaddha actor appears on the show wearing a plain kurta and blue jeans. Karan asks Aamir why he decided to remake Forrest Gump, a movie that has won several big awards, is considered one of the most iconic movies and Tom Hanks’ best performances. Aamir shares Atul Kulkarni had shared the idea about making the movie 14 years ago, during Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na.
When Atul shared the idea of writing a story for the Hindi version of Forrest Gump, Aamir wasn’t pleased. However, his mind changed when he heard the script after 2 years. It took 8-9 years for Aamir to get the rights to remake the movie. Kjo asks Aamir if he’s stressed about the box office. Aamir says he is stressed, and he will be heartbroken if the movie doesn’t work.
Kareena was not the first choice to play Rupa, as the team was looking for someone in the age group of 25 to play the character. When the casting director showed them a video of a new actor, even Kareena was a part of that ad. Aamir and the team thought, why not take Kareena to play Rupa? Karan then pokes fun at Bebo as she has to give a screen test for the movie.
Kareena says she’s never given a screen test for any role in the past. So it was a surprise when she had to give the screen test. Bebo says that Saif Ali Khan encouraged her, and they talked about how only Aamir could make her do it. She happily did the test. However, Aamir and the team selected her to play Rupa without watching the audition as they loved how she rehearsed the line.
Karan Johar tells Aamir Khan how the movies from the South (RRR, KGF, Pushpa) have worked, and movies from the Bollywood industry are not working. KJo tells Aamir that he’s responsible for the shift that’s happening in the tonality in the industry since 2001 due to movies like Dil Chahta Hai, Lagaan, Rang De Basanti and Taare Zameen Par.

Aamir Khan explains how all the movies Karan mentioned had emotions that touched people’s hearts. Aamir says you can make an action or crude movie, but pick a relevant topic that people are interested in watching. Karan then moves to Kareena and says how she never watches her movies and is unaffected by whatever happens to movies.
Aamir tells Karan he’s wrong as she has been very concerned about her movie, Laal Singh Chaddha. He says she keeps asking him about the latest developments, promotions and more. Karan and Aamir keep answering the question directed to Bebo, who’s struggling to talk. Poor Kareena gets lost in the background because these two men think they know her!
KJo also mentions how Kareena has changed and doesn’t call and ask him about the gossip like she used to do. Kareena again tries to say something, but the topic goes to Aamir and how he’s boring at parties. Aamir says that parties have loud music that hurts the ears. Bebo says that’s how parties are supposed to be – you come, get drunk and dance to movie songs.
The party discussion continues, proving Aamir’s point that they might actually be boring. The topic then goes to Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. We learn that Aamir doesn’t like K3G but loves Kareena’s character Poo. Aamir is also not a fan of Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. He likes Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Lust Stories.

The topic switches to how Aamir and Kareena beautifully manage their respective complex family dynamics. Aamir credits his ex-wives Reena and Kiran for being so understanding and says there’s a lot of care and genuine respect. Bebo answers that it’s not that difficult as Saif is a father to 4 kids, and they all deserve his time and attention. She wonders why this is even a discussion. Same here, Bebo, same here!

There’s a new game for Aamir and Kareena to play called ‘Actor trolling Actor’. Each of them has to pick a card and ask a question written on it about themselves to the other person. The other person has to answer it by being brutally honest. Aamir asks What is the one thing about him that annoys her the most.
Kareena answers what annoys her is Aamir’s thing for perfection. She believes it’s not wrong, but that’s something she finds a bit annoying. While Bebo is quite honest with her troll answers, Aamir was being nice. The entire segment fails to add any excitement to the episode. They make fun of Aamir’s working style of 100+ days, how Akshay finishes movies in 35 days and the Dangal actor’s boring fashion sense.
It’s time for the Rapid Fire round in Koffee With Karan Season 7 Episode 5. Kareena skips answering most questions, and Aamir shows his nice side by not giving any favourite names. We learn that Kareena has no regrets in life, and Aamir googles himself. Well, I will not reveal all the questions, but we got the boring Rapid Fire round of the season so far.
Karan’s disappointment is evident on his face. He says, “I’m flummoxed. Who’s worse? I don’t know. In the history of rapid fires, this is the worst one.” The jury gives Aamir the highest votes, and he wins the hamper. The next round is the buzzer round, and it only gets messier. In this round, we find out that one of India’s biggest superstars doesn’t know the movie names of many top actors in India.
In the last round, Aamir and Kareena have to call celebs and make them say ‘Hey Karan, it’s me’. Aamir facetimes Ranveer Singh and Kiran Rao. Kareena calls Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Kapoor. In the end, Kareena leads the scoreboard and wins the round. KJo tells her that she needed to win the round after her extremely poor performance in the rapid-fire round.

The episode ends with Karan asking Kareena and Aamir what luxury life means to them. Bebo says having the time to spend with family is a luxury. For Aamir, luxury means having the time to spend with himself. The duo sign the coffee mug, and KJo wishes them luck for their movie, Laal Singh Chaddha.
Koffee With Karan Season 5 Episode 7 Review: Final Thoughts
Overall, the new episode of Koffee With Karan was quite average. Maybe it’s the pairing or the questions? Maybe it’s the fact that Kareena didn’t get to talk much? We don’t know. The discussions about Aamir’s fashion sense and disinterest in parties happened too much.
The most hilarious moment was Aamir having no clue about what the thirst trap is! I wish Kareena was alone because she deserves to get all the attention.
