King the Land episode 13 begins with Sa-rang and Gu Won facing each other in shock as the latter’s marriage talks leave Sa-rang stunned. She soon leaves the room while someone cleans up the mess created, leaving Gu Won, Il-hoon and their guests to continue their discussion. Seeing the direction of the conversation, Gu Won makes it clear that he is already in love with someone else and that these marriage talks are in vain.

However, the others laugh it off while calling it a temporary infatuation which angers Gu Won. He makes his point clear and leaves to check on Sa-rang. Meanwhile, Sa-rang is sent to the second floor to deliver food to another guest when she meets Gu Won on the way and tells him that she will contact him after work.

Sa-rang apologises, collects her pay and returns home where she is shocked to find that her pay for the day is equal to that of a month. She begins thinking about the happenings of the day and ends up falling asleep without contacting Gu Won, who on the other hand is worried. He arrives at Sa-rang’s house but doesn’t go upstairs as he is worried about her mood.

Suddenly, two officers arrive and tell him that they have received complaints of a suspicious person loitering around who is none other than Gu Won. He tries to clear up the misunderstanding, however, while the male officer is suspicious of him being a stalker, the female officer sees him as a romantic.

The two end up in an argument and Gu Won understands that the two are facing issues of their own and tries to help them make up before leaving. The next day, Gu Won arrives at King the Land and tries to have a conversation with Sa-rang when Han Yu-ri of the First Royal Hotel arrives to once again talk about their marriage.

Gu Won tells her that he wishes for her to actually fall in love to understand what he meant the other day and lets her know that it is impossible between them. Later, he arrives at Sa-rang’s favourite restaurant and waits for her while pondering what she has been thinking about.

The chef sees his worried face and offers him a drink to ease his broken heart which provokes Gu Won as he shouts that nothing is wrong with his relationship. Gu Won continues to sulk when Sa-rang arrives and assures him that she was not thinking about breaking up but about how the peak of her job is nothing more than becoming a maid at a wealthy person’s mansion.

However, realising what Gu Won had been thinking about leaves Sa-rang laughing as she makes it clear that she always knew that getting his father’s approval won’t be that easy. The two are finally able to clear the air between them and Gu Won is now able to put his all into preparing his proposal for King Hotel’s next ten years.

Meanwhile, Da-eul finds out that her husband has left his job a year back and has been lying about being busy the whole time which leaves her stunned and angry.

Soon, the day to present the proposals arrives and the two siblings stick to their words and bring plans wherein one supports cost-cutting while the other is against it. While Hwa-ran’s plan promises to save 10 billion won for the hotel, Gu Won gives them a plan that earns more than 35 billion won.

He plans to spread the King Hotel name all around the world and make it a worldwide chain, and supporting this is the 100 years legacy that the hotel carries and the impeccable service that they provide. Il-hoon is very happy with Gu Won’s plan which also promises to fulfil his wish to see the King Hotel name in every country he goes to. He makes Gu Won the president of the hotel right then and there and tells him to begin his plans.

Elsewhere, Sa-rang is called upon by the chairman who tells her that his grandson Ji-hu has asked for her personally. The two enter his room where she clears up her reason for being here while looking around and spending a romantic moment with him until Ji-hu barges into the room.

She makes up a reason in front of him and sneakily leaves, however, later when being dropped home by Gu Won, she tells him that she feels Ji-hu feels lonely. She hopes that he talks to him and gives him the love she deserves, thus, Gu Won does as said and notices the indifferent treatment given to Ji-hu by his mother.

King the Land Episode 13 Review

Episode 13 has taken this romantic drama to a different level when compared to others, especially so because the show has been compared to our typical rom-com for quite a while now. The maturity and understanding shown between the two lead characters is very real and different which is really bringing my appreciation for the show up a notch.

While this does not stop the Kdrama from giving us some very dramatic episode endings and previews, the excitement felt when anticipating the next episode is no less of a pleasure for fans of the show. King the Land has really won our hearts, and it is especially this episode that makes it so.
