Karate Girls Review
In Amazon MX Player’s sports-drama series, there’s an innocence and sweetness in the air that will leave viewers chuckling at the immature antics of its protagonists. A coming-of-age story, this one flows smoothly and the stakes are high enough for us to root for its innocent protagonists while not fearing for their lives. MX Player’s young stories always have something to say but without the overdramatic aspects that other streaming platforms sometimes fall prey to and this one is similar – there’s a heart in this story that one can’t ignore.
The series follows two young girls, one is grappling with poverty and hopes to get away from her struggling existence while the other wants to get out from under the thumb of her father’s ambitions and pursue her dream career. In the midst of this, they butt heads but seem to come together once they realise that their end goals are the same and that’s when they both grow, individually and as a team. The story is simple enough and there are not many complicated twists and turns but in spite of that, there’s a tension in the air as you wonder whether or not Abha and Komal will be able to realise all of their dreams.

The storyline is engaging and has a freshness to it thanks to its protagonists’ honest performances. The bond between Abha, Komal and Vicky feels genuine and their innocent jabs to one another and immature rivalries feel sweet and heartening. Thus, when they give up these antics and a friendship blossoms, you can’t help but smile. It’s a nostalgic watch in a way and makes you think back to your school days more often than not. On the other hand, the real problems that the adults are facing, especially Ajay, trying to save this Dojo and coming to terms with his failed ambitions feel real on a more personal note – the weight of his decisions and problems feel terrifying.
However, the series is simple and convenient. There are not many complications and most of the “twists” are predictable and things we have watched before. However, the execution is really nice and it keeps you entertained, especially because the runtime is quite short. The performances are excellent and relating to the young girls’ plights feel natural after a while.
Final Thoughts

The series is a fun and light-hearted watch that showcases youngsters in today’s India fighting for what’s right and for their passions. The series can get a bit slow sometimes but quickly moves to greener pastures and brings forth a balanced and entertaining watch for most viewers. There’s inspiration here that can push youngsters to find what brings them happiness and, to top it off, it also leaves you entertained.
